    Say Something Now or Wait

So they new school year started and one of my kids is very difficult already. I thought yesterday it was because everything was new, but today he was worse. Didnt follow a single direction given, ran around screaming, tantrums, CANNOT share or wait his turn. He's 4.5 and not new to school or daycare at all.

I really can't tell if tthis is just spoiled or there really is a problem. I tend to at least wait til the week is out before I start sharing my concerns with parents but he's really gotten off to a rough start and i see it getting the worse.

Would you talk to the parents or wait?

I am in the same situation right now.

I just mentioned to both DCM and DCD (one picks up and other drops off) that the DCK is taking a bit longer than most to pick up on the rules and seems to be pushing boundaries a bit more than other age-mates but we will keep working on it and keep you posted on how they adjust.

That way I felt like I was leaving the door open...kwim?

I don't want to come back later and go "Oh, they just don't listen and I don't want them in care"....I figured, setting the stage for the hard talk later would be easiest...

    That's my two cents.

I would call his previous provider and find out why he left and if they experienced the same thing.

I'm in a center/preschool and we're not allowed to contact the previous provider.

BC, thanks, I think I'll do that.

Yes, I'm big on laying the foundation early on. That way, if it gets to the point of talking about terming, you don't have a parent saying, "What? WHY? I didn't know there was a problem!" And if he does get better, you can say, "Wow--he's improved so much since he first started here."
