I am not too sure if I am qualified to suggest something of that degree. I believe that I can only request that they try and follow up with their pedi doc and let them make that decision.

I do have to expect that the family will not accept what I have to say and learn how to accept and respect their wishes. They may get angry and leave, but that is ok. I need to look out for this child's best interest.

This is for my class, so I don't really care how it turns out. As I said before I have been on this family in the past about this issue and I gave up about a year ago when I realized that they are not going to do anything about it.

I did think well maybe my new focus could be that the child is about to start kinder. (next year) and that the school will not be ok with the child falling asleep in school, arriving late due to behavior because the child is too tired and etc. This is an avenue that I have not tried yet.

I really wish I didnt have to do this, trust me I have said my piece and I want to be in peace with it.....

I like the Kindergarten aspect as well!
You could talk to them about it and give them handouts of what is expected of children when they enter Kindergarten. This way, it's something you haven't done and also gives the parents solid evidence of what is expected.

Here, we have to do observations as well as assessments. Is there an assessment tool that you are allowed to use? That helps me to be able to talk to parents in a polite way if there is anything that I have concerns with.

At my DS elementary school the principle mentions good sleep habits in the welcome back to school emails-we got several prior to school and during the first week. She also greets the kids at the door or in the hallways and asks them what time they went to bed! I don't think all schools do this but evidently mine takes it very seriously!

I am required to track progress and do 2 evals through out the year as well. I use these in my conferences with the parents.
Are you able to use a different child? I have completed many of these classes, and I always chose the easiest child/family for these kinds of projects.

There may be another child that does not yet know all their letters - use that one instead. The class should not be dictating which child you must use, just one that you have concerns about.

              Is this the QRIS thing?

Why don't you contact Crystal? She is working in that field now (supporting providers) and they progress through quality improvement standards and changes.

If you need her contact info, let me know. I bet she'd be full of tons if ideas and support for you.

It's not QRIS but very similar. It's a state preschool certified curriculum that runs on private funding through grants.

But I bet it's really similar. I'll give her a try.

                Thanks BC.

Daycare, I just took a class, "What About Sleep".
With new statistics being released, and it was great!
The instructor is a sleep and parenting consultant, Beth Grams Haxby, Ed.M her contact is beth@sleepandparenting.com or www.sleepandparenting.com, maybe she could help with some suggestions for your parent conference.
