Covered Sandbox With Bench Seats

So I've had my eye on a sandbox that opens up to have bench seats. Well I'll be coming up on some money soon (incentives from my QRIS program) so I started looking into how much it would cost to get one and they have them on Amazon, with a canopy, on sale for $160 plus $6.95 shipping (usually close to $300).

Just thought I'd share because for that much money I will definitely be ordering one. I thought it would be WAY more than that.

One thing though is that they have no bottom (so that you can determine if you want to dig a hole to make the sandbox deeper or not) so if you plan on having it on cement like I plan on having it then you'd have to spend a little more for wood and such to create a bottom.

Wow, what a great price. My dh built our sandbox, it's really nice, but the custom, fitted cover itself was $100! I will be sharing this with some friends!

What did you use for the fitted cover and what size is your sandbox?

My DH just built us a new one. We downsized from a 12ft x 12ft one to a 10ft x 10ft one and we decided to make a cover for this one (having issues with neighborhood cat).

We used a roll up system so that the cover rolls open and closed.
It's not the nicest or easiest system but it works. It was really inexpensive to do too...we used a tarp and a pvc pipe along with some smart thinking on my DH's part but curious as to what your fitted cover is.

I showed DH the bench/lid like MV posted but he said with the size sandbox we have the weight of the cover would be too heavy for me to open/close regularly.

Ours is small (5x5), weather resistant custom color (green) tarp. It has eyelets on all four corners that dh attached bungee cords to with bolt anchors. It works well, but I have to confess that I don't always use the bungee cords. Sometimes, I just pull the tarp over and throw a heavy toy truck on top- works just as well.

The one in the photos I posted is a small sandbox and is only 4x4 so it would work well for me since I have a small yard and only 3 preschool age kids will be playing in it, the other 3 I have are infants. I could see why a similar cover for something bigger wouldn't work.
