does this sound right for an infant??

DCG just turned 8 months old. She is small... 0-3 month clothing, occasionally 3-6 months and she is in size 2 diapers. She is starting to get a little chub on her but not too much. She is gaining weight fine, she is just little.

    Here is her feeding schedule:
Wake up and eat approx 8 oz, not sure if formula or breast milk.
9am: screams until I give her puffs and 4oz of formula
11am: 8 oz of formula and about 1/2 cup of homemade baby food (fruit/veggie) and rice cereal.
12pm: screams until I give her puffs and 4 oz of formula
3pm: 8oz formula and about 1/2 cup of the food
Evening: another 8oz of formula or breast milk and food.

That's about 40oz a day plus 3 meals of food. It seems like a lot of food! I believe she is around 15lbs.

Is this normal? I just added in the two 4 oz bottles this week

Every baby is different I know, but I don't see taking a 4oz bottle an hour after an 8 oz. bottle as being normal.
What time is her wake up feeding??? If its breast milk, is it from a bottle where mom is sure she's getting 8 oz.?? What is her sleep schedule like? The crying an hour later could be a silent reflux or gas issue or even teething (I know, teething gets blamed for everything but the puffs and milk could relieve teething pain)? Does she spit up a lot? Is this a new thing or has it been going on a while? Could be a growth spurt if its just recent.

Generally at 8 months old I have babies eating every 4 hours or so (give or take depending on naps, etc.). So usually a bottle at home in the AM (6-8am), then bottle here about 4 hrs after their last one (10am-12pm), then cereal if they are on it - most of my families start cereal at about 6-8 months old but I have them start with an evening feeding before adding in the lunch one here. Then another bottle usually about 3-4pm before they go home.

My daughter was 15 pounds from 9 months to 1 year, she didn't gain any weight and she ate like a teenage boy! . She had a food absorption issue. It went away at about the 14 month mark, but she was never a chubby baby.

I don't think 40 oz. per day is out of line for an 8 month old. They usually have 4-5 bottles a day at this age (6-8 oz per bottle). It may be a little much, but 32 oz. per day is recommended at this age, I believe. As long as the baby is doing well, let her hunger/thirst be the cue for what she needs. It does seem like a lot for a child who is eating that much "solids" with it, but as long as there is no problem, I'd just let it be.

One of my current kiddos was much like that. His parents worried a bit, particularly because his older sister wasn't a tiny little thing. Eventually he just started to grow and put on weight and is no longer that tiny little peanut that he was a few months ago. I would not worry about your little one, especially because she *is* eating so well.
