Needing encouragement - licensing is killing me !

Registered used but logged out for privacy.

I am losing patience with licensing.

I've had visits each month and each inspector, all different, want to see different things.

A parent forgot to check in one day. Got written up.

A parent forgot to date a permission slip. Got written up.

A parent was late picking up after I closed. Got written up for operating outside of business hours.

I had cheerios left in a car seat in our daycare van. Got written up for having an "unclean" vehicle.

Child A had a blowout. While cleaning child up in the bathroom, Infant B starts crying and cries for 3.5 minutes. Got written up for not tending to an upset child within 3 minutes (regulation).

I have a guinea pig. He kicked hay behind our shelf and yup! Got written up for not having a clean floor.

Just this morning I had a licensor follow me, in my daycare van, to our field trip place, and proceed to write me up for being out of ratio on a field trip. I had 6 kids by myself, and another child w/ parent, meet me for the field trip. Mom went to bathroom and left child with me and friends. Inspector said child is to remain with parent at all times or I'm responsible for them. So yup, more inspections to come.

I'm feeling upset and attacked by each person from licensing who comes and views my daycare. I feel like they are trying to find something wrong with each visit and I've given up having a perfect record. I have resigned myself to always being written up for something for each visit.

I talk with other providers in the area and no one else ever gets knocked for having issues like I stated above.

Starting to take it personal and want to give up

Don't give up yet. Once my person showed up for an inspection in Kansas and wrote me up for a couple little things. One was because there was a pot holder laying on the stove (fire hazard). I about freaked because I had never been written up for anything. She then told me her boss had said they had to write everyone up for something of they were not doing their jobs because no provider is perfect. Whatever , but I had to write a letter stating what I would do about the couple things like "I will make sure my well meaning husband doesn't clear the table in the morning". It sounds like if they find something on you they come back? That seems strange to me. I can see how they nailed you on the one extra child, they are huge on rules like that but some of it sounds like they are being picky.

WOW, they have WAY too much time on their hands. Are you in the midwest or some place rural? I can't even imagine your frustration! Maybe you should take the "kill them with kindness" approach. No matter who they are, compliment them, start asking them about their lives and maybe see if you can gain some help from them.

      It sounds vindictive...

Someone understands what I have been going through.

I know they say, “Misery loves company.” It is not true. It is really sad to learn someone has been going through what I have gone through.

I am still standing. You can do it. Whether it’s vindictive or professional, do your best and keep on moving forward. Only throw in the towel if being a provider isn’t your cup of tea. If childcare is really what you what to do at this time in your life or for your lifetime, do not allow them to steal your joy.

Do not beat yourself up and try to let it roll off your should. I know it’s hard.

I personally would contact the higher ups.... Especially with the infant crying while changing a blow out. I would ask what they expect you to do in that type of common situation. That's ridiculous.

Why are they coming every month?

Why are they coming so often? We only get inspected once a year after the first year and every 2 years after that.
