    Too Short of Nap, WWYD

I tried to do a search but I can only find posts with the opposite problem -

We have a new boy, 16 months.

We have nap time from 12 - 2 pm for everyone taking one nap, on cots that we lay out around the main daycare room. There is one separate room for babies, under 15m, to sleep in pack n plays.

At 2 pm, we let kids who are awake get up and play quietly, and try not to disturb the others. At 2:30 we have snack and by then usually everyone is awake.

I got an email after the new boy's first nap here (on a cot, in the main room) that DCM is very concerned that he was already awake when she got there (2:25 pm), because he usually sleeps 3 hours at naps and won't be getting enough sleep if he is waking before then.

What would you have replied? Just wondering, as I have not heard back from her.

Well he is in a new place, and that may have something to do with less nap. As they get older, they require less sleep. I am assuming he woke up on his own. That is tough but if needed can't they adjust his bedtime by a little? That is what I would do as a mother of one that age. You can't force him to sleep three hours.

Well that's kind of an opposite problem! Is prefer that mom over the....."can you keep him up for nap" mom.

I'm thinking that I do already have a problem. I didn't want to bias the post but DCM is high needs in other areas as well.

One of my other DCB today slept until 3:00 despite everyone else getting up, so it clearly can easily be done.

I thought the same at first, that a parent who values sleep would be ideal.

And to Thrifty, I thought the same as well.

Apparently, he already sleeps from 6:45 pm to 6:00 am when she HAS to wake him up to be here by 7:15 am. Even though the commute to my house can be no more than 15 minutes from her house, on the worst traffic day ever recorded.

So I now have three problems with this, 1. She could get him up at 6:45 am and have plenty of time to give him some breakfast, change his diaper and clothes and get here by 7:15 am; 2. She gave us ONE day of his napping here before she freaked out that he 'can't sleep long enough' and 3. She scheduled to pick him up during what she claims is his usual nap period... so she can't possibly value it THAT much.

I find it funny that you are having this problem. My dc parent are always amazed at how well there kid nap here and hope that they nap at home like that. Tell mom to give it time to get used to thing.

Why was she there at 225 to pick him up if she still expected him to be sleeping??

I'd be asking her this exact question! Give her some time too, to settle in to your routine but I'd be ready for some fun if she's already questioning everything.
