Well she is going to get back with me after she sees a couple other people. That is fine. There are a couple of things she seemed to not like about my program, one of them was rest time. She wanted to know for how long, because her toddler doesn't take naps. Um I am not giving on that one, they don't have to nap, but they we are going to have a rest time. If she doesn't enroll due to that, I guess it wasn't a match. I need the money, but I also need my sanity.

I'll bet she finds out most places do have toddler rest time. But you're right, if there was no give on her part, it's probably not a good match.
Best of luck filling your spots though, it will happen.

I'm not sure there is no give, but she let me know she didn't like it. I learned the first time I did daycare not to cave easily on such things. I had parents that walked all over me, and it was because I had an attitude that I had to make them happy about everything. I have a different attitude now, and am going to hold out for parents that are easier to work with. Yes, we have to make the parents happy, but they have to allow us to run our program.

Ever wonder if you are being told the truth about why someone is looking for a new provider? Not saying this one is lying, just not sure though.

Do your state reg require a nap/ rest time ?
I find it is much easier to explain that the state requires it and since you follow all the regs you have to provide a nap/rest .

I blame the state all the time!

Me too! I also waited for the right parents before starting and I have the best experiences with them. They call if they are 5 minutes late for dropoff, are never early and never late for pickup. They all trust me and often ask me for advice on their child.

When I was interviewing I made it very clear that *I* was interviewing *them*. If they wanted a spot in my super cool program, they had to do x, y, and z to get in. I also always told them that I was interviewing other families.

When I started out interviewing like that, I filled quickly. I did lose 3 quickly for weird reasons, but more to do with job loss than anything else. Now though, after 6 months, I have a wait list of over a year. Whoo hoo! I really believe that how I interview has a lot to do with this.

Our state doesn't require it, so I can't use that . I have always figured the interview process went both ways, maybe I need to change my thinking .

I blame the state, too. I have a shorter rest period than most places in the area. Most are 2-3 hours and mine is 1 1/2 hours. I also make it clear that I don't wake kids. So if they sleep longer than 1 1/2 hours.......

We do music and books for 3+ during rest time. The one non-napper I have is super quiet and rests. It works for me.

Yes, I told her nap (as in sleep) is not required, that a quiet activity such as laying down reading a book was allowed. She was worried about how long. I have 2 hours on the schedule, but told her since I am just restarting it may not be that long it really depends on what kids I get. And I am hoping to shorten it some because there are a couple other things I would like to schedule in the day I can't seem to fit in right now. But I am also being careful with the schedule because we all know with toddlers we have to follow their lead even with the schedule in mind.

Parents are so funny with naps. Mine are more concerned that their children aren't napping. I guess a lot of my kids won't sleep at home, but they do for me. No sleep = grumpy child.
