    Monthly Newsletter Vacation

Ok, so here goes I provide my parents a monthly newsletter to let them no what's going on, birthdays, donations needed, important dates to remember, school closings, time off or early closings. Here is the frustration, I have a family that is divorced and the parents do not work well together when it comes to their kids, and they leave it to me to figure it out if I close early on who is getting their kids. Yesterday the dad came to pick up and my newsletter that has been there for a week got it and saw I am closed for a week next week btw (gosh, I have had kids everyday all day for 13 hours a day why would I take a vacation) and said do me a favor, can you give me a link more notice next time. I had to laugh and said do me a favor, read my newsletter, it was in June's and Julys and we are now in August!

I totally get where you are coming from.I had a parent last week when reminded verbally about monday 28th closing insisted I had aug 11 not july 28th off .I immediately got her the original notice.Sent out jan-april-june and posted along with calendar in front foyer seen every day.She insisted she had a notice about aug 11.When they returned last tuesday I asked if she found the notice. No she said .Same parent when not allowed to bring child after late Dr appointment asked "what do I pay you for "

LOL! at DCD..... :: Love your response!!

If you print off newsletters, perhaps there is a way for you to e-mail them to all parents (including BOTH parents in this situation).

If you don't e-mail and do paper copies, then I would maybe just print 2 and put it in the child's basket. Each parent can pick up their copy when they pick up the kids.

Other than providing double copies of any paperwork I would simply tell them you are NOT the middle man and I would NOT allow their separation to be my issue.

Separated/divorced parent situations are always tricky to navigate.

I stopped doing newsletters for that very reason. It's a lot of time & effort for them to not read it. I now post important information when they sign in on online.

I stopped doing them as well. They are a lot of work and I believe that only one of my parents actually read it so it wasn't worth the effort.

I give parents my planned vacations and closings for the year in January and mark them on a calendar that I have hanging up. I still have on family who never knows what's going on.

I email all parents my newsletter, print it out to post by the sign in, AND post reminders on the sign in with Post Its. So far it works for everyone except my son.

Speaking of communications. I would call & text a parent who didn't answer or reply. She said use Facebook PM. She didn't reply. Now I am to email her. Fast forward; she needed to sign some documents for her state assistance DC. 3 emails later, I told her failure to response will result in her being taken to court for fees. Nothing. I called her emergency contact. AKA..., dad. Told him she has 24 hours to contact me or I will take the next step per my email. She came in 2 hours later & signed the papers. I gave her a thank you termination note for her kind effort.

I love how you answered dcd, .

I have a password protected parents blog on my website that they can read or not read, their choice. I get very specific about what we do here each day. Some parents anxiously wait for the next post, and one parent has never even checked it.

This month I posted a special deal to my parents. If they don't read the blog (and yes, they all have access to computers) - then they won't know about the special deal.
