curious to know how you make it work.
I don't accept payments on the weekends

Not only is it physically impossible since I am not at my daycare on the weekends but I don't conduct business outside of business hours.

I include that info in my enrollment paperwork just so parents know it isn't an option.

For those parents that pay via electronic bank transfers, I still charge a late fee until Monday. Because let's say they deposit or transfer money on Saturday. The money is not available to me until Monday when it posts to my account so therefore since the money is not available to me, it's late.

    "Available" is the key word.

        yep.

Unless you are one of my long term families grandfathered in to pay on Monday. I still have 2 families that pay on Monday since that was the arrangement we made years ago upon entrance and I just never messed with their payment schedule because they never paid late. But if they did, they would not automatically get saddled with the late fees for days that fall on a weekend.

I used to say that my late fee was $10 per day. But parents tried to pay over the weekend and would call or show up un-invited to try and save $10 -$20l

So I just changed my contract to say that if I am not paid by 6PM on Friday evening, it must wait until Monday morning and will be $30 extra.

No excuses and I do NOT do business over the weekend.

Hubby forgot to leave the money when he left for work, he works 45 minutes away and gets off at 9. I asked her why she can't go to the ATM and she said they don't keep money in the bank account bc the child support (for a different child, not hers) would take it all. Plus her name isn't on it, he gives an allowance from an account. It doesn't make any sense! PLUS she is now 15 minutes late and he has been the only child for the last 3 hours!

Well tell her hubs better take out enough to cover the late pick up fee too when he does get the money to her.

Yep! I think I should raise the late pick up fee too! The little extra isn't worth the extra time. I have it as $5 for the first 15 minutes and $1 per minute after.

Mine is $20 inconvenience fee AND $1 per minute.

Second late pick up is $40 inconvenience fee AND $2 per minute.

and so on and so on.

If parents are going to be disrespectful then I better be able to make some easy money off them.

Although the whole point of hefty late fees to make a point not to just earn a few extra bucks.

I'd prefer NO late anything verses the money.

Actually, I did an inconvenience fee of $50 per day for ncns ONCE; if they did it again they were termed.

Also, I am also a surrogate (I know there are a couple others here) and in my contract, I put my "higher order" multiples (meaning carrying triplets or more) fee pretty high to DISCOURAGE parents to request the transfer of more than 1- 2 embryos

And it works! My IP's know I will NOT transfer more than 1-2 embryos and if I do, then they will pay a hefty price, so they don't bother to ask.

Ugh--that ****s! Has she paid? I've never done the late pick up fees in increments, as in a certain amount for the first 15 min. They'll use the whole 15 minutes....what's an extra $5 or $10, you know? Mine is $2 per minute, beginning right at 5:31. I've hardly ever had to enforce it, and never had a family be late again after being charged.

She paid on Saturday. I've only had to use the late pick up fee once...only unforced it twice. Friday and a few months ago. I do try to be understanding bc things do happen. Like last Tuesday a mom got off work 15 minutes early and came to pick up but there was a big accident and she was 10 minutes late. The accident was big enough to be on the news.

Yes, I agree! Sometimes it really is out of their control. I'm understanding about that, too. The thing that prompted me to write in my late pick up policy was a family that would give me the old "I thought Dad was picking up/I thought Mom was picking up!" Yeah, I'm not missing out on MY kids' sporting events, dance performances, etc because parents can't get it together. I've also had a parent text me close to the end of the day to ask if I had plans right after closing time.....the answer is always YES! They don't have to know that the plans are collapsing on the couch.
