I just have a question, I wanted to know what do you all consider PT/FT?

I'm thinking of changing my handbook/contract.

My hours will be from 630a-6p contracted based on parents schedules.

I have PT as being 4 hours or less and FT anything more than that basically. But now Im wondering should PT be 5 hours or less? not sure..

I personally don't do 1/2 days, I can't make up that lost money and I don't want to lose money in order to save someone else, if you KWIM PT is less than 5 days, and my rate changes per the amount of days they contract: 1 day= $35, 2=$70, 3=$100, 4=$130, 5=$150. I do $40 for drop-in. I've had a mom chose to bring her DD here for Christmas season, her work hours changed for the holidays and she needed me from 1-5, 3 days a week. She still paid $100. My newest family is coming M-F 7:45-1 and asked about PT pay, but I said I couldn't fill the afternoon any way, and they still chose to enroll. So some people do understand!

I don't do half days either. For me FT depends on how many days you need so 4 or 5 days a week is FT because it's hard filling a spot for one day a week. PT for me is 3 days or less. PT is a flat weekly rate and has to be a set schedule. My rate is $28 per day minimum for 3pm pick ups and add $2 per 30 minutes after 3pm for later pick ups. Add up the total daily fees together and that's their weekly rate.

I have 3, 4 or 5 day options.

I don't take kids that attend less than 3 days per week unless they are drop in and that is on an available basis only.

I also do not offer half days on a regular basis but will allow half days for regularly enrolled children but my half days can NOT include lunch time or napr time.

I offer a half day A.M. block from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m or
a P.M. block from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m.

Full time is 5 days a week , part time is 1-4 days a week .
I do not do half days or charge by the hour . I did that way back when I first started out and it was a disaster .

Full time is 20 or more hours per week.

Part time is less than 20 hours per week.

I do offer AM/PM care: 7-11:30 and 12:30-5, no lunch served. But I've never had anyone want AM/PM care.

Ok so now I'm thinking I should only offer full time days and just either offer 3, 4, or 5 days a week instead. That seem much easier and the rate can stay the same.... I initially have in my handbook FT 2 and up =145 a week, FT infants=185 week, PT=MWF 2/up 135, and tues/thurs=110. PT infants=MWF 155 and T/TH=130....

So should I just make it Only FT, but can come either 5, 4 or 3 days a week? I'm almost done licensing but the more i think I feel like i want to change things over and over.

This is is a rough outline of how my rates work:

3 days = $100
4 days = $120
5 days = $ 140

Flat rate, SAME payment each week, regardless of absences. Rates are based on enrollment NOT attendance.

If a 4 day a week family wants to add the 5th day, I add $30 per day NOT just give them the rate for 5 days.

If a 3 day a week family uses the SAME 3 days each week, then they get the $100 rate. If they need a different 3 days each week, I charge them the 4 day a week rate but ONLY allow them to use 3 days.

I know it's easier to just take the 4 day a week rate then as far as cost goes right? So most parents do. (Which I prefer so win-win!)

I don't accept less than 3 days unless they pay a drop in rate and drop ins must call to inquire about availability the day they need care (I don't allow advance reservations) and they pay $45 per day payable AT DROP OFF that day. I also don't allow drop offs to stay until close. They have to pick up an hour before my last kid so I am never stuck at the end of the day with a drop in kid...kwim?

Then I let every one know that the families that use the most space will always have priority over families who use less when it comes to reserving space.

I leave the choices up to the parents and I NEVER discount or negotiate my rates.

I don't normally take infants but I will if the family is currently enrolled.
Infant space is SUPER hard to find here so I just charge one flat weekly rate for infants regardless of how many or few days they want.
Flat weekly infant rate is $10 MORE than the 5 day rate.

Infants require the MOST work.

I don't charge an enrollment fee and I don't charge a deposit either (it's first come, first paid = first served) and I require payment in advance so the deposit isn't worth it to me. If a family wants to leave, I more than likely just want them gone too so it's fine with me. I don't think any child cares in my area require deposits.

I do NOT hold spaces. EVER. If a space is open and someone wants it, they pay for it. Whether they use it or not. So no holding fee.

Sorry to tell you, you will NEVER be done editing your handbook. I've been doing this for 2 decades and update mine yearly.

I consider PT anything less than 4 full days. I don't really offer half days (although it's in my contract, $40 for half, $50 for full days so it breaks down to $10/hr like drop-in care) and nothing has really come up needing PT care? I do offer drop-in care if I have the room but I haven't in a couple months except on Mondays.

That way if someone doesn't pay monday, they won't be here tuesday :: So I figured I really wouldn't miss money if they didn't pay because I wouldn't provide the service anyway. I love this site....
