I have not raised my rates in 5 years, so no matter what, it's time. I guess that is the only thing that I can fall back on.

This is the only thing I'd mention to the families. Also, $18/month is less than $1/day, which seems like it'd be less than the COLA over the past 5 years. (Not that I took the time to do the math, but it's not a lot.) I'd mention that too.

BTW, $18/month is less than 3 large lattes/month. Just a comparison...

That's what I was thinking. I'd do $20. Heck they couldn't even go to McDonald's for $20 ONCE if they have kids. $5 a week is nothing with the cost of things the way they are.
