Illness was the Result of a ......

Growth spurt. Yes, apparently growth spurts cause fevers now . By the way, another child was out last week due to a fever also. Maybe growth spurts are contagious ?

Anyone else have good parent excuses for illnesses?

I had a family in care for about 13 months. Every time their child was sick it was something. Too much granola, not enough sleep, too much watermelon, someone grabbing her kid wrong, etc. This happened every time there was vomiting or fever. After the accusation that someone had grabbed her child wrong and that is why she was complaining her lymph nodes in the armpit area hurt (in addition to a high fever) I knew I was DONE with them. I pointed out the armpits hurting...and no, no kid or myself grabbed her under there. Not much later the sis came in after having a "tough morning" and vomited on my breakfast table 10 min after arrival. Dad claimed I knew she was sick. Umm no. They were termed that day.

Last week, I had a 5 yr old (older 5) who I sent home with a sudden temp. (101.2F)

Mom says, "Oh, it must be from staying at the cabin."

The family has a cabin they stay in for the summer every summer.

Child has stayed at the cabin every summer since enrollment 4 yrs ago and never had issues due to staying there before.

Every rash is prickly heat. Then they are so surprised when the call comes to pick up early for fever or vomiting. Lol.

Oh I don't think I could control my response to that one… I'd have to say "wow, in my 15 years as a parent and dc provider I have NEVER seen a child get a fever from a growth spurt before and NEVER saw a contagious growth spurt, because so and so has a fever now too".

Mine said dcg had red cheeks from the sun ( it had rained for almost a week solid). Same one would blame allergies, spider bites, and the air conditioning for everything. Oh and the best was a doctor's kid- dcm was trying to pretend dcg wasn't sick, even though Gma had gotten pneumonia from a bad cold , dcm said the flu mist spray caused her to have a cough, and it was no big deal, she wasn't really sick. Meanwhile dcg was sick for weeks and got everyone sick too.

I had one mom tell me her child's illness was allergies.....allergic to snow. yes thats right, allergic to snow. If she really thought that crazy idea was true, why would she walk her daughter through the snow covered yard every day? LOL this woman then tried to start her own daycare, then quit, and now works at a preschool. she is kind and has a good heart but no actual training and lots of random ideas about children obviously. yikes. i dont trust preschools and daycares because I know a huge majority of these workers are basically untrained in every way. I think here you have to do CPR class and a couple hours of training per year, it is very minimal....sad.

One DCM said her son's 103* fever was from it being hot outside... Mid 90's. LOL it wasn't even 98* outside but we were all 98-99 except him. The next week my DS had a fever of 104* but not hot outside at all

I know, I'm actually kicking myself for not saying something. I wish I could go back in time and set him straight . I think at the time I was busy and laughing too much in my head to come up with something.

Besides, they will never learn. One of the previous times he had a fever, it was from "teething." Boy was 2 1/2 at the time and has all of his baby teeth in. I told them "Hahaha, yeah that is definitely not the reason. He has all of his teeth in...I know because we have counted them before as a game while brushing teeth. You can easily see when he opens his mouth. But thanks for the laugh." They sputtered some half comment about how they didn't know.
