    ABCMouse.com

I was wondering if anyone uses ABCMouse.com for their daycare? If so How do you like it? Do you think your kids learn from what is offered? and is it worth the money?

Search for the best information on daycare, and childcare for your children

is some nice threads on the subject.

I'm still on the fence. Not only do I not have the area/space or equipment - but I'm still not sure whether it's a good idea or not. The commercials are very... persuasive but that's what commercials are intended to do, play up a product. I heard if you are a teacher you can type in your EIN or teacher id or something and get it for free, this includes daycare providers. If you read through the listed threads you'll find who I'm trying to quote. One person also said that there is enough technology in children's lives as it is, it seems like the first 5 years is our only chance to actually teach children with things like puzzles, hands-on learning, old fashioned play, and educational activities... whereas they probably have i-pads and whatnot at home or grandmas and when they start school they will be on PCS also... Like I said, I'm still on the fence. I think if I did do it, I would have a 30 minute segment per day and that's it. Especially if I can get it for free, I won't feel like my 7 dollars is being wasted , kwim? However, I'm more about the other stuff, like learning through play and outside stuff, singing together, learning home stuff like hygiene, manners, and respect and all that basic good stuff that parents don't get the chance to teach at home because they are working. I incorporate learning into my program, just not so... obvious, to the children... kwim? Some people are all for it, since our children are in a technologically advanced age and they will be drawn in sooner or later, but there is still people who would just.... rather not Sorry if that's all over the place, but some points to consider. Def read through the threads, it'll help you come to a conclusion. Hope I helped

I use it but each kid only gets 15 minutes per day. They can use it on the laptop or my ipad.

thank y'all for your reply!! and tehck_1013 that made sense and helped a lot I did not understand it was an *online* thing I thought it was one of them sites that help you plan your curriculum I am like you and prefer the *old school* way of teaching I am in school right now to become a daycare provider and that is actually what I am learning right now is how critical teaching a child is at that age so you helped me decided that's not for me!!

I set it up for my daycare but then didn't use it for them as I had to be with them one on one and didn't have an assistant to watch the others BUT my 3 year old grandson LOVES it. We have to limit the time or he'd play it for hours.

As a provider, I got it for free. Schools and daycares do. I just put in my license number and haven't paid a dime. However, I am now retired and my daughter got it for him and I think it is only $7 or $8 a month. Great bargain, in my opinion.

Oh and besides doing the games, etc. online, you can also print out a lot of things. I printed out coloring pages, pages to learn to use scissors, and worksheets that we did together.

The children complete lessons at their own pace and they earn tickets. Then they use their tickets to buy things. Not real things but virtual things. They can buy pets and pet supplies, clothes for their avatars of them, furniture for their room, the yard, etc. They can feed their pets, give them baths, re-arrange their rooms and they totally love it.

I love ABCmouse.com! Could you tell? Lol.

My 4 year old DD played on it for maybe the first day or 2. Now wants nothing to do with it. I tried getting the 3 year old dcg into playing with just to see how she liked it but she was not interested enough to even learn how to use a mouse. I don't have an ipad or tablet so that may work better. I'm finding these 2 girls like my one on one teaching better.

To me it would not be worth it. I have an iPad and I can download apps to what ever the kids are interested in. Recently has been bones, starting to get into money(at 3yo) among other things, and I limit that time because they would spend all day playing games instead of actually exploring their environment.

Like someone mentioned earlier you can get it for free for your daycare, just sign up as a school and enter your license number as your credential # or whatever it is they ask for. Set up an account for each child and then the kids have access to certain activities at home too. The idea is to get the kids hooked and ask the parents to pay for the subscription ::.
