I woke up this morning and think I have pink eye. sigh No doctors open around here until Monday though. I only have one kid next week since the rest are on vacation. Since I'm an adult and know how to be careful, would I need to close until I see the doctor? Should I just tell her it's a possibility and let Mom decide?

I'd let her know and give her the option too.
The last time 1 of my dcks had pinkeye, the pedi told dcm that sometimes daycares let the child go right back, sometimes they don't. I thought that was odd; I've always requested them to be on medication for 24 hrs. before accepting them.- Flag

For pink eye, I've always continued to work, just being extra careful. Fairly easy to avoid spreading it as an adult, unlike for kids.- Flag

I worked through it. Last summer was really bad and I kept getting it every few weeks. None of the kids got it after the first round when they gave it to me. One of my Dcd is a dr and she prescribed me some drops that finally got rid of it.
I was originally trying to get a substitute in and that Dcd said 'just wash your hands more than normal & don't run your eyes!'- Flag

As the day has progressed, I'm not sure that's what it is, at least it isn't acting like the last time I had it 12 years ago. Eye feels like something in it, red, but not getting crusty or running yet. I was fine all day Thursday, took my contacts out, showered, and during the shower, it started feeling like something was in it. No eyelash showing, but I thought maybe a grain of my facial scrub got into my eye. I rinsed my eye out and left the contacts out Friday. It was red and felt irritated, but no more than that.
I guess I'll see what tomorrow brings and see the doctor on Monday. Thanks for your opinions.- Flag

how about an urgent care or minute clinic-type place at the drugstore? They should be open tomorrow. I wouldn't suffer, personally.
But I also wouldn't close.Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!- Flag

if it feels like "sand" in your eye it could be viral instead of bacteria. They don't get as goopy then. But go to doc on Monday- Flag

The odd thing is that I'm not suffering. Right now, they just feel irritated if I move my eyes a lot, like from side to side.
The nearest clinic is about 40 miles away, so no worse than this is, I think I can wait. If it's worse tomorrow, I'll re-visit the idea.
Didn't realize viral had different symptoms. Should have now that you mention it.- Flag

I wonder if maybe it is allergies? When my allergies start acting up, that is exactly how they are; red and they feel like something (like sand) is in them. I think I would still get it checked out if I were you though.- Flag

I've worked with pink eye before. None of the kids got it (I think I got it from using and old mascara wand) I think the issue is young kids wiping eyes and then touching other kids, toys, etc. I just kept my hands away from my eyes and washed my hands. It wasn't debilitating or anything and I would rather save my sick time for when I'm truly incapacitated.
