    Have You Moved Your DC?

Anyone move & started your DC elsewhere? I'm thinking about relocating but staying in my town. I own a rental property in a very desirable neighborhood. (2 miles from my DC.) It will be empty at the end of summer. If I move, I will only do day shift & drop our night shift. I also want to stop accepting state vouchers. The parents are my biggest headaches. I'm trying to relieve some stress in my life.

How did your DCP take the move? Your thoughts & comments are appreciated!

I moved within my town - only about 5 miles from my old house. Everyone came with me, it was actually more convenient for all but one family (and they were fine with the 5 mile drive, but it was even nicer when I was just a few blocks away).

I closed for 3 days for the move - we were closing/moving on a Wed. so I closed W-F and reopened Monday.

I took state paid clients my first year only - and will never do it again. I know some will jump all over me for this but my experience was not good. They were my biggest headaches in the 13 years I've been doing this. They were unmotivated, uneducated and didn't care much about me or my rules or their children in some cases. They used their "state pay" as a threat to me. Never again. I absolutely know not all state paid clients are like that but the ones I dealt with turned me off of it completely.

I moved from one state to another twice - the first time because my hubby finished graduate school and the second time to be closer to my family. My DCP were sad but understood.

IMO if you're just moving 2 miles away it shouldn't be a really big deal to your DCP.

We are hopefully moving the end of this month 3 1/2 miles away. All of my families will stay with me. I will actually be closer to 3 of the 4 families.

We don't plan to close any days.

I was very lucky. We are licensed for 16 kids and we moved from one city to another and everyone came with us!

We had wanted to make the move for some time, but knew we would lose some clients because of location.

Some months later we realized that all our clients just happened to either work or live closer to our other home. So we just did it! It was very easy. We re-did our basement and set up the daycare. We had a few days where the old place looked a bit bare, but everyone knew why! We just ended on a Friday at the old place and started Monday at the new.

The licensing part took some juggling, but we did it!

We don't want to miss a beat in service either.

ps...., I forgot about the basement space. We can do the big wheels & indoor playsets down there. It doubles the square footage!
