No More Holidays Till Halloween....Now What?

I think it's sometimes a pain, but easier to plan stuff when we have a holiday to base it around. The kids have something to look forward to, the parents know what to expect, and there's plenty of decorations for my empty walls during all the holidays. Now we have a 3 month break before the beginning of October. I feel relaxed and not pressured to do stuff, but then again overwhelmed with all the possibilities (especially thanks to Pinterest!). We're going to do farm animals this week and next because of the local 4H fair, but after that I'm not sure what we're going to do.

Do you continue to plan stuff during the summer with themes, or just relax and not worry about it until school starts back up? I figured we would do stuff involving water when it gets real hot out, but it's actually pretty comfortable right now. So many options and yet I feel so unmotivated

I do things like ocean, watermelon, ice cream, carnivals/cicus themes. When I run out of summer theme ideas, I do book themes. I concentrate on a particular author like Eric Carle, for example, and read several of his books and plan a craft or activity around each one. That usually carries me right through the summer until the holidays come back around.

        It's summer.

Everyone gets a break from curriculum/schooling in the summer months.

Enjoy the weather and just go play!

Perfectly fine to do nothing but enjoy the summer!

This week we are doing a beach theme with a field trip to a state beach (lake) on Friday. After that we are chilling

this is exactly how I run the program. I had a dcm come in telling me she just looked at kindergarten requirements and dcg can/ can't do this one or that one...kindergarten that is 2 years from now for dcg! I am not doing a summer curriculum to accommodate

My "themes" are based around the season and holidays. This month we're doing some Red/White/Blue, and summery things like ice, sunshine, yellow, etc. Since my program is child-led-play based I don't plan a lot of activities per se, it's more that I plan "things" to put out for them to discover and explore. This week it's shells in the sensory table...

I just sprinkled small seashells in the big sand area in our playground yesterday for the preschoolers.
And put larger ones in the playhouse for the toddlers.
Then I just wait until they notice ::
                So much fun

Hey! You left out Labor Day! You could a theme on professions in mid-to-late August.

I use a curriculum and the July themes are "vacations" and "fruits". I think on the fruits. I'd have to double check that. I'm procrastinating because I'm trying to figure out the STARS stuff.
