    toys for the play room

Ok, so I'm trying to reorganize my play room. Our main play area is also my living room so I'm a bit limited as to what I can do. My oldest dck is very newly 4 y.o. so mostly 2 & 3 year olds. I've taken several toys out because they don't really play with things, just dump a lot. Since I don't leave a whole lot of toys down full time, I'm wondering what you think about the ones I have. We have a kitchen set with play food, large tractor to push around, wooden blocks, cars & trucks, a tote of trains tracks with trains (my son builds with those for several hours a day), a few puzzles, about 15 books, and a toy box with misc. like dr. kit, toy tools, 2 dolls with clothes & bottles, etc. We do have a whole lot more toys, but since they just make messes and don't play a lot I put them away hoping to reintroduce them later on. Do you think this sounds like enough for them to have out? Anything in particular I don't have out that you would suggest they need? I just don't want to be unfair in having too small a selection of toys available. What about a tote of bean bags they could "dump" and toss back in? Thanks!

The one thing I see missing is some sort of blocks, maybe, if you can find a way to add them. Accessories could be dinosaurs, cars, people, animals, etc. traded out periodically.

Bean bags or anything else just for dumping would be good, since that's what they want to do anyway.

What about art? Do you have paper and crayons readily available?

We do "art" time every day & they are always welcome to color at the table if they ask, but I don't leave them out or 1 dcb in particular colors on the walls & furniture constantly. We do have wooden blocks out & I have mega blocks as well, but I put the mega blocks away to trade w/ wooden ones every few weeks. We have TONS of animals & dinosaurs & little people sets, but they just won't play with them. They all end up dumped but I never see anyone play with them. Maybe I will just put out a couple at a time.

Your toy selection sounds pretty good to me. We recently did the same with our toy room so that there would be less to have to dump and rumage through just for them to find that one particular toy they want that is at the bottom of the toy chest! LOL I agree that sometimes less is more! And when you trade out the boxed up toys every few months its like having all new toys again.
