    I Quit!!!!!!

As most of you know I had my experience as a director. Well here is my story from start to finish pretty much.

This was my first director job. I have always wanted to be a director and got really excited that I had a chance to be one.

I did work off the clock for many hours without getting paid for it. If I didnt take it home there was no way that it would get done. And I was wanting to get all of the paperwork and files right before I start school back on Monday.

I would work hours on end and sometimes all day with out getting a lunch break. Everyone would get a break but me because I would have to break everyone that was there. And then I would have to hep get snack ready and after that I had to cover classrooms because teachers left at that time.

We would go days without having toilet paper. And the teachers would have to share a bathroom with the children with doors that didnt lock.

The owner wiped a childs hands a bleach rag while cleaning up snack one day. Their parent was right there. She would leave the school age children by themselves all the time.

Every time you use the sink in the kitchen leaks into the floor. And the faucet comes right off if you turn the water on to high.

The rooms never gets clean. And they dont have all the centers that we should have. Mats never get clean and the children share blankets because the teachers never pay attention to who has what. And they never send them home.

The staff would never should up to work. They always had some excuse why they needed to leave or not come in at all. One girl had two no call no shows. And after I bitched for so long they moved her down to a sub but didnt fire her. I kept interviewing people for her job but the owners decided that they wanted to bring back another lady that used to work there. They didnt even talked to me first about it. I was trying to give it to someone else.

The owner would leave me to run the whole building by myself with children ranging in ages 1 to 12. I was so out of ratio.

We are supposed to have outside time. And we do go out to play but we walk a half a mile to a park. I had a friend to price us a fence with labor and all brand new. Well that was to high. I found a fence online for super cheap and it was still to high. I even found playground items for cheap from a center that is shutting down. Still wasnt good enough. I was trying my best to get us a playground so we could get more children. That way we could have items that we needed. Cause of right now they can only have 20 kids. They can have 40 with a playground. The other day we had 21 kids. One kid more than we were supposed to have.

The owner was transporting children in her van without transportation her the license.

There were gnats every where. Trash would never get took out. It was just a gross center.

I had to buy out of pocket all the office supplies that I needed.

Staff files were awful. Hardly anyone had TB test or education on files. You cant work with out either of these. And even some people didnt have CAN checks or background checks.

State came the other day and was asking me questions. I told the truth about everything. The state lady said that I should find a new job because of everything that they found could shut the place down. The owners got mad at me because I didnt lie and say how great of center they had. I am not going to lie about anything no matter what. They said that they couldnt trust me anymore. So I quit yesterday. I just couldnt take it there anymore.

I loved the job itself. Just not how the owners were. Everything I said that needed to be done this way or that way or even changed just went in one ear and out the other. I am very discouraged right now about the career path that I want in life. I want to be a director and even own my own center. But after this I dont know if I should.

    aww man!

You did the right thing! I hope, hope, hope, they get shut down! It's really a disgrace, especially considering a church is running this place.

I would call that licenser, and let her know you left. I would offer my assistance if there is anything she needs. Tell her point-blank that you don't feel right about children continuing to be in that center.

Take this as a learnign experience, and have faith in that this will all lead to something better!

That sounds like a bad situation from start to finish. I am happy you are out of it. If you aren't happy with where you work, and proud of it, then it can really **** the life out of you.

      :hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

Don't let the bad apple ruin the bunch. There's other fish in the sea. I need more phrases but I don't have them.

I have had really bad jobs too. I worked as an abstinence teacher. Yup, abstinence. I had to go into MIDDLE SCHOOLS and tell those kids not to have sex. :::: It was the worst experience of my life. Do you think middle school kids want to hear a woman telling them to say no to drugs and sex? Um ... no. I was at each school for 2 weeks. At one school, which later shut down because it was non-performing and a little violent, I had a boy offer to "do" me. Also, my last name can be turned into a sexual reference if you think about it really hard. The middle schoolers all thought about it. I've never had an adult mention it, but every middle school place I taught did.

And to top it off ... I had to give out these pencils. Oh my gosh, imagine this ... pencils, right? And when you rub them up and down really, really fast they change colors. So ... I have an entire middle school class in an abstinence class, taking these pencils and rubbing them up and down, up and down, up and down.

When I quit my DH took those pencils to work and gave them to everyone. I guess it was an interesting day at his work!

So cheer up, we all get those bad jobs with bad bosses. At the abstinence job I was told I was being written up because I performed my job too well and didn't ever stop to get any input from my boss. Um ... that was why you hired me! If you hired me so you could get an ego snack, you hired the wrong person. I actually work while working (strange, I know). Even though I grew the abstinence program by 50% in my time there, which had never been done before. Huh, I grew the abstinence program. My mind is completely in the gutter tonight. ::

Sweet Jesus! I don't think I can complain about my center again. Good for you for reporting them and quitting. I worked at a center just as bad when I first started working in Childcare almost 20 yrs ago. We never had what we needed, staff showed up whenever, ratios didn't matter, our paychecks would bounce from time to time, and we were told to lie to the parents. Thank God they were shut down when the police noticed a CHILD left in the center, after hours, during a routine patrol. Know that you did the right thing and don't be discouraged about opening your own center. You'd be great.:hug::hug:

I have found that it takes working at a few bad centers to really understand what makes a good one. Quitting took courage. I would call licensing and make sure your name is taken off as administrator before the school is shut down that way future jobs don't associate you with that facility. You will find a new center and a new director's position and you will be much happier.

Sorry for such a bad experience.

I believe that I will do that tomorrow. I am taking it as a learning experience. I have learned alot on the paperwork side of things just the two weeks that I had been there. I re did everything the right way.

I remember having these classes at my school. We always got ugly old women who hated their job and we hated having her there. But thank you for your story. It has gave me a good laugh. I am glad you are notdoing that anymore. I just wish my old job would hire me back. My husband has finally found a small old and end job until he starts his welding job in a couple of weeks. But now I am in the unemployment bandwagon. Oh well. We will pull through this. I cant work in a place where I am not happy and cant change anything.

Wow!!! I can not believe you went through all of this. I have always said that I would never work at a center that I would not put my future children in. This was the only exception and I will never go back on my word again. I am trying to not let it affect me to much. I have a wonderful support system. But it just makes me feel bad because I really wanted to help this center. But no one would let me.

Thanks. I am so going to do that tomorrow. I have the names of the last two ladies that have came. Did I mention that the two weeks I was there we had two different state ladies come in. The last director called state and the health department on them. Maybe I need to do the same. In the past two months. The have had two different directors.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but don't let it sour you forever. It sounds like you'd be a fantastic director/owner if you were given the chance because you really care.

They won't let you help because helping costs money. If the money is yours, then they're all for it. If the money is theirs, then it's not in the budget.

I hope you are able to find work quickly and I hope its twice as awesome as you had hoped the last one was going to be.

Thank you. I really do care for the children and what is best for them. I always put them first no matter what. I can not wait for the day that I can just open my own center.

They never have money for anything not even paper for the children to color on. It is crazy. I really hope they get the help that they need in order to turn that place around.

Thank you. I really hope so too. I am going back to teaching. I love it and I know that it would be the better option for me right now. I emailed state about them as well. Going into more detail than I was able to the other day. I really just want to make sure that my name comes off as the director. They are going to get hit hard in a few days or even tomorrow with everything that they are getting wrote up for. And I dont want my name on it if they get shut down. I hope that they get the help that they need and they do not close their doors. But if it happens it is not my fault.
