    I Give Up...Food

I can't compete with a candy bar promise at the end of the day. Yes, I do hear you whispering the promise in your dd's ear that if she's "good" you will buy her one. Do you realize your dd talks about that candy bar all day....even during lunch while she sits and eats nothing? And...you wonder why she's not eating? Hate throwing away all that nutritious, homemade, mostly organic food.....but I just tired of worrying about it. Go home hungry and eat your candy bar.

Just needed to get that off my head.

I once had a little overweight girl who would hold out for cookies. She would very descriptively tell me what kind they were. I then would tell Mom, "Well, she didn't eat today. Said she wanted ____ cookies at home!" and Mom would have a delayed response of then being surprised. It came to a point about 2 weeks later that they were asking that I make her a separate food item because her last baby-sitter did. I had to tell them that 1. I am not a baby-sitter so I do not have ample amounts of time to cater to one child's food preferences when I have 10 others and 2. She will eat when she is hungry here. But, they need to work with her on actually eating healthy food (we're talking veggies, meat, etc.). They ended up putting in their 2 weeks notice because they just couldn't get her to eat healthy and didn't want to try.

I have that same issue here. Parents want to send their kids here because I serve healthy & organic. But do you think they follow up at home? Nope! They figure that my doing it is enough, and then they can feed them crap at home.

I hate to say it....but thanks....misery loves company. This morning this girl just talked talked talked all through breakfast. I finally told her that she can talk after eating. I was mad at myself because I don't want to make it a battle...but it just gripes me that her spoon doesn't even get lifted up. Sometimes I say 1,2 eat-a-roo and all the kids put food on their fork and eat a bite of a certain food at the same time. The kids love this and it gets them tasting more food. This girl though....picks up a piece of food, examines it on all sides, tries to make it as little as possible and then gags. I've put an end to the gagging though....the gagging is an act.....her drama. I wish it didn't bother me. I mean....food program pays for a lot of my food....so it shouldn't bother me. I can't undo the fact the parents bribe her with candy bars and give her chicken nuggets all the time. But....it does bother me.

Boy, I'd be tempted to get yourself a candybar and after you eat and thoroughly enjoy your lunch, eat that candybar where she can she you enjoying it.

Maybe even share a little with the other kids who also enjoyed their healthy nutritious meals

Some fun size candy bars and a bunch of YUMMY talk. I would take a good ten minutes to eat it.

Nan: I luuuuvvvvv candy (takes tiny mouse nibble)
Two seconds later: Isn't candy deliciousness? (Nibble
Ten seconds later: little Bobert you ate your lunch... would you like a snickers or a 3 Musketeers?
Minute later: kids you like Pink Floyd? I do. My fave song goes a likea this "you can't have your pudding if you don't eat your meat" (See Nan nibble)

The candy bar show. Seen daily at nans house after lunch.

Love Nan's idea. Here I do a "no thank you bite". The kids have to take 2 decent sized no thank you bites just to be polite. Sometimes they even discover they like what I've made.

We definitely need an update if you do Blackcat and Nannyde's idea. I'd love to know it if works. I bet it would!

                            Ugh.

I once had a 2yo arrive eating potato chips every morning. When I said something to Dad he replied "That's all he'll eat in the morning." and it just popped out before I thought about it - "Well, that's because he knows he'll get some if he doesn't eat anything else." Oops! If I'd thought about it beforehand I'd have phrased it nicer, but Dad wasn't upset.

I had a 16 month old little girl start last week. I serve all fresh, healthy organic foods. She would not eat anything that I gave her, so I texted her mom to ask what she suggested. She told me that she only likes ramen noodles. Seriously? Yeah, not gonna happen here. She has decided to nibble on some fruit, which I guess is a start.
