    Curious: Clients That Are Teachers

I was just wondering if someone can enlighten me on something I've been thinking about.

So I know that some of you have clients that are teachers and there are different ways that you can bill them. Some bill these clients like they normally would any other client etc. but my question is for those that take what you would make in the year and divide it by the # of weeks that the teacher works.

Pretty much I get that part, what I'm wondering is what do you do if the teachers ask for childcare during school breaks?

Do you bill extra? Or do you allow the child to attend DC without any additional charge since technically they're paying the same as any other client and have pretty much in essence paid for the weeks that school is out? (they're just paying more each week since they only pay on weeks that the teacher parent works). Am I making sense?

It's sort of like MissAnn's thread but I'm curious to know whether you allow attendance or not? Charge extra or don't charge for days of attendance during breaks?

I no longer allow 9 month billing and simply charge all year long but what I did when I did the seasonal billing was charge as a drop in for summer use.

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do too! The last several calls for childcare were from teachers who seemed to have the attitude of.....what will you do for me since I'm a teacher? I am $20 less per week than anyone else in this town, I only take 3-5 year olds and am strong on academics and I serve very nutritious meals.......yet paying for summer (1/2 price) seems to be a real deal breaker. I get almost all teachers kids.....so not being paid all summer is out of the question.

      I'll stay tuned!

Now I'm curious about this. If you do charge a teacher a higher weekly rate to average out the summer, do you tell them how you are calculating it? Or do you simply state your rate?

If I did it I would probably give a choice. I would figure out how much 1 year would cost with holiday pay, my vacation, and 1/2 price summer. I would divide that amount into how many weeks care the school session is.

What I don't know is.....what happens if you term them? Would I owe them money since they sort of prepaid summer?

            What if they term?

Here's how I am working it...

I have ONE child leaving next fall for Kinder (2015). I told ONE teacher's child that I will reserve his spot during the summer IF she keeps him home during every school break. If she does not keep him home during every school break throughout the year, then she risks losing her spot in the summer if someone else is interested. There is no additional charge for coming during the school year and I don't charge a higher rate.

Since I do not have any spots opening up next fall beyond that one... my other teacher clients are as follows:
#1 - Goes to Kinder next year but will leave at the end of the school year. He also left this summer and will come back when one of my Kinder kids leaves. I have already filled his spot.

#2 - Comes 3 days per week during the summers and full-time during the year. They are paying $100 per week for MWF and $135 per week for school year. She will stay home during all school holidays.

#3 - Just interviewed. I told them I would ONLY accept them if they came MWF during the summers for $110 per week. They would be paying $140 per week for school year and they really enjoy their kids (older kids who wouldn't be here) and spend time with them all anyways. VERY well behaved children and great family.

Keeping them home is what makes opening early for me worth it. I open up at 7:15 for them instead of 8:00 like my other clients.
