    The Chatterbox

    My ears are being talked off on a daily basis. I have a 5.5 yr old that talks non-stop (today I learned everything I never wanted to know about Star Wars. How a Droid can beat Yoda, why Darth Vadar has a red sword thingy, etc) all morning until the bus picks him up after lunch. All through free play, snacks, park, lunch, waiting for the bus. I have to stop him when someone else comes up and tries to ask me something, and then he starts up again once I've finished with them.

    Once he's on the bus, the 4 yr old starts up. All through "quiet" time, and until pick up. This DCB's speech is very muddled, so most of the time I get lost after the first few sentences of the story, so I spend the rest of the time nodding and responding in what I hope is the right way.

    They're both great kids, but O.M.G!! ::::::

    It's not a "red sword thingy"...it's a light saber.

    My chatterbox told me so ::

    Constant chatter is worse than I imagine Chinese waterboarding to be.

    Sometimes I just tell the talker to be quiet or go talk to someone else.

    Sometimes we play "Who can be the quietest the longest" and the winner gets a prize.

    :hug: because I totally "get it".

      This is so my son right now. I have been telling my husband he is lucky to go to work. Last night, he finally got it and I heard him say, "Just stop talking for a minute!" :: Last night I let him call grandma, put him on speaker phone and let him chatter away until she told him to give the phone back to me. Anything for a break!

        You've just described my DS. He was born to talk. I don't think DH and I have had a conversation since he started talking.

        And he is really into Star Wars, so I know all about it, too. Every single character and battle. As well as all things Lego.

        I must be immune to it now, it doesn't bother me anymore.

        I have learned to turn things into questions, though, to get them to think about things. For example, DS: Did you know that Darth Maul has a double blade red light saber? It's so cool! He's the only one with a double blade!"

        Me: You're kidding me! A double blade??!! How come he gets a double blade and no one else?"

        If I have to listen to constant chatter, I'm at least going to make him think a little!
