    WWY Charge?

Right now my handbook states I charge 21 a day for ft and 16 a day pt. Well, ft dcg is attending prek 5 mornings a week come fall and won't be here until 12:30 which means she'll already have eaten lunch. And many Fridays she won't be here at all because her Nana picks her up after lunch anyways.
She doesn't need the assurance of a ft spot because she's a teacher at the same school. I will remind her of that because most prek parents pay for a ft spot to cover those unexpected days off from school. I will also tell her that ft will take priority over pt. Trouble is that hasn't been an issue for awhile as I've had no calls.
She emailed me yesterday and said 'so according to your policies we'll only have to pay 80 a week, right? Technically yes, but my enrollment come fall is going to be terribly low.
I seriously need to write a wonderful unique ad and place it everywhere.

Maybe something"DCM, you are correct that rate goes down if child is here PT. Keep in mind though, that may mean there will not be availability for Susie to come here on the days preschool is closed but you still have to work. Most parents continue paying the FT rate in order to guarantee they will have that spot for those days. Otherwise you are taking a chance. I want to be upfront about that as I don't want you to be upset if there comes a time I don't have an open space on a day preschool is closed."

If you are really tight and want to accommodate this family you can always say something like "You are correct that when Susie is in school the rate is x, keep in mind that preschool often has more holidays/time off than schools, so on those days the rate would the the FT payment." So at least she knows that on those days she will be paying more.

It sounds like things are slow where you are, but can you take out PT rates? Or at least for preschool?

I always had to pay full time rates when my son was in preschool. He was at daycare noon-5pm, and on Fridays.

I cover this by allowing half days ONLY to full time families that attend 4 or 5 days a week.

If any of those families need a couple hours on their day off, I will allow them a half day. My half days are offered in blocks of time.
A.M. block is 8-11 and P.M. block is 2-5. NO attendance can fall between 11-2 as that is lunch and rest time. If they need care between 11-2, they pay the full day.

In your case, I would NOT enroll a child wanting half days only. It's just not an option I give. 12:30 drop off would mean she would miss lunch but would be dropped off right at or shortly after rest time started...which is hard to take a child in and send them right off to rest.

I would also require the change in schedule/payment be requested in writing 2 weeks a head of time to avoid the "oh, we only owe this much this week"....thus shorting my budget without warning. If she knows her schedule of attendance will be changing, she needs to request the change in writing at least two weeks prior and I can't guarantee I will be able to accommodate the change. (that's how I would have handled that).
