    cold tablet?

Has anyone ever heard of a product called cold tablets for infants? I had a mom bring some ( I told her no) but I had never heard of it before.

Could they have been the Hyland's Tiny Tablets?

    These:

I think they are like the teething tablets and are more natural and not so medicinal.

However, I personally think if a child requires anything like that to be comfortable during the day, I wouldn't be comfortable having them in care. They should be home resting.

I read the reviews for the product BC posted and there's no way I'd use those at daycare. I don't give meds at all... period... BUT the reviews say you give one every 15 minutes for an hour and then one once an hour for the rest of the day. No way. If a child needs that much OTC meds throughout the day then they belong at home. Ain't nobody got time for that! I don't care if they're holistic it not.

I typically will allow tylenol and other items (I do nebs for example), but even relaxed me would not do this. First, not sure some of those ingredients would be truly effective anyway, but the dosing schedule would not work for me.

"Children under 6 months of age: Consult a licensed health care professional before using this product.
Children 6 months to 1 year of age: Dissolved 2 tablets on tongue every 15 minutes for 4 doses, then hourly until relieved.
Children 1 to 3 years of age: Dissolve 3 tablets on tongue every 15 minutes for 4 doses, then hourly until relieved."
        Goodness!

I agree. I had sent home yesterday but no fever was presented so when she showed up today this was mom's answer. I turned around during and sent home again . But I have my own baby and didn't know how they work. And didn't know if it was something I would like to look into for my own child . I myself am not a fan of giving kids meds.

I love Hyland's stuff and belive strongly in the effectiveness of homeopathy, but not at daycare.

I actually like a lot of their stuff as well, but the first ingredient (boneset) has not been shown to be effective for that use, and gelsemium can be poisonous in large doses. Just like any other drugs/herbs, use by someone not familiar with the symptoms of overdose is not wise.

The "large dose" here is going to be bottles and bottles and bottles and bottles of the tablets taken all at once. A lot of medications (all?) are poisonous in large doses.

Three bottles contain enough to be fatal. One bottle contains enough to be toxic. I could walk you through the math, but it is complicated.

However, I have no issues with the medications themselves, though I question the boneset for that particular use. I just think parents often think, "Herbal means I don't have to take precautions, and can just give my kids as much as I want." Reality is these are still drugs and parents need to use caution in storage and dosage. I give herbal meds to kids at the parent's request all the time, but I do know exactly what I am giving and what the signs of toxicity are for all of them, herbal or not.

And we agree, it doesn't belong at daycare regardless.

I won't give meds of any kind. Even "herbal" remedies. All it takes is a parent OD-ing their child and the first thing they will do when questioned by the doctor is point a finger at the provider and say "She's been giving them to her too, so SHE must have OD-ed her".

I won't take any responsibility when it comes to medication.
