    Regarding Pay .....

    ME....
Canada Day falls on a Tuesday this year ...
I was wondering if you take it on the Monday and make it a long weekend or if you open on the Monday and take the Tuesday off for it......
I can not remember how we did it in the past....
    Ideas .......

    OTHER LADY 1 .......
I think Canada Day is one of those days that is supposed to be taken on the actual day, so July 1, the Tuesday. However I would poll your parents and see what the majority are doing. I know some are taking both the Monday and Tuesday. I've avoided the issue by taking that week as a vacation

    ME......
I aslo have taken the week off for vacation. The thing is, is that, I get paid for Canada Day and I have a client that comes Mon, Wed, Fri. So she would be charged for that day even if I were not on vacation right.

    OTHER LADY 2
Yes you should be paid, since it falls on a scheduled day.

    ME......
So I would charge her, her regular three days plus the day for Canada Day.
So she would be charged 4 days instead of the three - correct ?
I just want to make it 100% sure before I send her the invoice
    Thanks

    OTHER LADY 1........
No if Canada Day does not fall on a regularly scheduled day you would not charge her. According to the government website Canada Day is July 1st, the Tuesday.

    ME......
I get paid for Canada Day
So should she not be charged for that day even though its not her day here ?
Your saying that if I had a client that only came Wed, Thurs they would not have to pay for the Stat Holiday even though its in contract and all ?
Even though they would be paid for Stat Holidays even if they normally did not work that day ?
    ?????

What do you all think.... I will be sending invoice out this afternoon
    Would like input thanks.....

I only charge parents for the holiday if it falls on a day that their child is normally scheduled to attend.

No, I don't charge my PT families if a holidays falls outside their regularly scheduled days. I personally would not charge her.

          For me:

If it is a day they are normally scheduled to attend, then yes they pay.

If the stat falls on a day they are not contracted to attend, then no they do not have to pay for the stat.

Canada Day always seems to be the most difficult one when it falls mid week.

I just avoid it by taking the whole week off now

I do exclusively part time care. Parents contract for specific days each week. If a holiday falls on one of their contracted days, I am closed but they still pay.
If it does not fall on one of their contracted days, they do not pay for the holiday.

I've had parents try to tweak their schedule to avoid paying for holidays, but generally speaking, if it works out in their favor one year, it works out in mine the next. (Except for Mondays, of course - we have a lot of holidays that are always on Monday.)

When I took part timers I didn't charge them holidays at all, but they did pay a higher per day rate. I Didn't think it was fair to make a mwf parent pay a Friday holiday while a twth parent never had to pay a holiday.

Don't charge her. If it fell on a weekend and you don't normally have children would you still charge all the families?
You get paid for the day because its a normal workday holiday. You charge people the same as always You shouldn't be getting extra income above your norm for that day.

I am paid if the holiday falls on or is celebrated on a child's regularly scheduled day .
Like if the holiday falls on a Sunday but it is celebrated on the Monday .

If a family is scheduled to attend MWF I would charge for July 4, which is a Fri this year, but if it was on a Tues or Thurs I wouldn't charge.

Sometimes if July 4 is a Tuesday or Thursday I'll take a personal day on Monday or Friday to get an extra-long weekend.

Also, my policies state that if a holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday I will be closed on the preceding Friday or following Monday, and these are paid days off. So if July 4 was Saturday I'd take Friday, July 3 off.

What a jumble of thoughts - I hope it helped!!
