Help! Term Tonight or Not ...

I took on a family that I knew would be questionable. They needed care from 4-9 pm Wed-Fri. They accept state aid, so the rest they have to pay for themselves. Dcm didn't show up with payment today for the week, which I require. She asked to pay on Friday. Eh ... I let her drop kids off.

The 2.5 year old is a terror. He is extremely destructive and I had 2 parents comment to me, "Wow you have your hands full!" And "Whew! He's into everything!"

I'm thinking of terming tonight at pickup but have never done this before. Should I give them more time? I'm really worried about my stuff!

I think you answered yourself in your description of this family. Sooner the better IMO.

I rarely have "terror kids" get better behavior wise. I want to say that only one ever did improve. The others I either had shadowing me constantly or I had to term.

That is really helpful, because I feel like a bit of a failure after throwing in the towel on night #1. But older dcb put a hole in my wall with how hard he smacked a Thomas train against it

It's ok... Ive termed the first day too before.

Usually your first instinct is the correct one.

He might get better but it WILL be a lot of work on your part.
I wouldnt be willing to put in that kind of work for a parent who has alrwady stiffed me payment... Kwim?

It's okay, you can term them.

Two parents have already commented on the behavior they've witnessed. Don't risk losing their kids in order to keep the "little terror".

I agree, it's ok to term! And you are in no way a failure! I have one challenging child here and haven't termed yet, but the day he puts a hole in my wall, he's gone. That is ridiculous!

Those were kind of my thoughts ... I'm glad to hear you've termed before in the first day too . If Blackcat has done it, I know it's okay,

Yes, I definitely don't want to lose my other kids - I have such a great group here!

I termed a little while ago and it went really well. DCM didn't even look surprised.

                      Thanks for your support everyone!

                        Glad it went ok...

Was mom's lack of surprise due to the fact this has happened before to her do you think? I mean she can't be surprised that her son is so aggressive.

Did she pay you for the one day you did provide care? Or is it a wash?

I would want some sort of payment for sure. You did watch her kids for a day, plus now you're out the cost of patching a wall, plus the time and repainting, etc.

yeah I would bet that mom has been daycare hopping with a destructive poorly behaved child for awhile. Any regular parent would be shocked and surprised to be termed after one day.

Jeez, if my child was terminated from care due to behavior I would be mortified! This must not be her first rodeo.
