    Oh, the Irritation

My husband is home today and hanging out in our bedroom, where two of my babies sleep in their pnps. I ask when he's leaving. "In a while" he says. My babies need to nap, I tell him. He says, they nap this early? I said yes, they nap twice a day. This was 2 hours ago and he's still in there. So I pulled their pnps out, and laid them down in the dining room. Did they sleep? Of course not! They're in a completely different room from what they are used to. Grrrrrrr. They're going to be miserable this afternoon.

    Just venting....

You're nicer than me ... I would have put the pnp's in the room anyway!

My dh does the same thing. He doesn't like to be told what to do, but he WILL get out of that room. He doesn't get a choice...he gets a 10 minute warning. I've threatened that if he's not out by then, then HE can take care of getting them down.

I'm actually very nice about it, but he knows I mean it.

It seems unsafe you keep babies in a separate room with no adult in it. Do the parents know this?

I'm sure babies all over the country are put to sleep in cribs in a different room. No parent stays in the same room with their baby 24 hours a day.

Yes, the parents know this and it's within our regulations. Thanks for your concern.

My regs do say direct supervision at all times, even during nap an adult must be in the room. Each state is different though.

My regs states direct supervision as well even during sleep! One of the perks of the changes that took place a few years ago. I didn't even do this for my OWN children when they were babies. I have said many times the persons up top making these rules have wayyyy tooo much time on their hands!

My dh will do the same thing, or will generally be noisy during nap time.

I agree with the regulation. I often put my own babies to nap in a different room alone, but the children in my center aren't my kids. I would honestly feel very uncomfortable letting someone else's child sleep unattended. I am sitting here now watching two babies in cribs sleep. And 3 on cots. My husband is watching 6 kids on cots, sound asleep. It's all good by me.

This is why I built one large room for daycare so I can view all children at all times per state requirements, too. But I still think the state can go overboard sometimes......

My regulations say infants cannot be out of sight. No closed doors.

The rules change though with age of child.

Starts with direct supervision within eye sight at ALL times....

....to being "available" for older kids but not within sight/sound.

That's not the case here. It's totally legal to put children to sleep in separate rooms. And I should clarify, when I say babies, I mean a 1 yr and a 16 mo old. They're still my little babies even though they're getting bigger. Infants under 8ish months never leave my sight per MY regulations. Lol.

I made it abundantly clear that I was highly irritated. Yes, that's our bedroom, but Monday through Friday during the day, that's one of my nap spots!

Definitely think its state by state. I am from NJ. 6 years ago my child went to a large center and they had a crib room which was off the infant room but separated by a wall and half door. They had a dozen cribs in the crib room for naps.
