Changing a Quoted Rate?

I have quotes from all centers in our area for infant care.

All are $210-250 per week.

I have a pregnant mother that wanted a quote for her baby as well as her currently enrolled toddler (who is $135 a week). I didn't do my research and quoted 2 children at $260 per week (full time care I discount a tiny $5 per child per week).

After researching, I feel better with a rate of $290 per week. She isn't due till December so I don't feel bad about this change in quote.

I am fine composing a notice for it -- but what would you say if she asks why I am changing the quoted rate?

I would say you are planning on raising your rates in Sept and wanted to let her know it would be $290/wk not $260 like you previously discussed. Say you just want to give her enough notice of the change in case she changes her mind or something?

I'm not worried about telling her. I plan on telling her next week and mentioning that it is effective July 1st and when her daughter returns in August, her weekly rate is $145 and when sibling arrives together they are $290. She's the DCM that always is super respectful but always asks "why?" I KNOW she's shopped around at the new centers and has even said "$250/week for one child?! Too expensive!" So this shouldn't be a problem....she knows she has saved $2000 this year alone in my care for the past 5 months versus a center. I just don't know how to answer "why?" All I've got is she pays lower than everyone else due to filling a spot I needed filled (though I dont charge her for summer and shes a teacher) and our rent went up $25/month...

Then just reply confidently that the cost of living has increased and in turn you're going to need to increase your rate by ___% (whatever the increase is) to meet your budget.

Food, utilities, and the overall cost of living has increased drastically, and daycare costs should follow- why should we have to eat all that out of profit? I'd also just quote rate increase is due to cost of living increases Good luck!

Yes. "Profit" = Our Income/Our "Paycheck"
