    OT Online Payment For Rent

I may have finally found a home. But this new landlord wants to use an online payment program. I am ok with this, but now they are telling me that the system takes up to 3 days to post and so now I will need to pay my rent 3 days before the 1st of each month so that they get the payment by then.

I only get paid once a month. Is this fair? Legal? I feel odd about it..

Yay! Hope this home is the one for you!
Fair? Not especially......probably legal though, not sure.
Usually you have a "grace period", so ask the landlord if you pay on the first, but doesn't go through until the 3rd, is it considered late?

It's kind of the same as when I had a parent want to pay me electronically. Payment is due Monday for the week and they had to schedule their payment several days ahead of time so the money was in my bank BY Monday.

Edited to add: all the bills I have I pay online and there is always a date it will be delivered by-I go by that and make sure the bill will be paid on time ya know?

My landlord has rent due by the first, late payment assessed if it is paid after the 5th. Perhaps they would be willing to work with you on the due date like that?

My rent is paid online as well. I have it set to auto draft from my account (through my landlord website) on the 1st and it usually shows up two to 5 days later. I would check with your landlord and see how it actually works. If payment needs to be scheduled by the 1st or if you have to set it a week before to have time for processing. We have a 3 day grace period with ours as well so in the event we needed it, we could schedule payment for the 3rd with no consequence.

Check the lease agreement . It should say if there is a late fee or grace period .

Sounds normal to me for online payments. I agree with PP, I pay all my bills online in the same way. You could change your DCF payment due date?

We have a 5 day grace period for our payments, I would hope that they would offer you at least a 3 day period? Otherwise, you have to probably have a little extra cushion in the savings for months that our paydays fall on different days then the 1st. I don't know how you do it, I used to have my first mom pay by the first but now I have so many different people who started at different times and pay biweekly on Fridays or Mondays or only Thurs-Fri families so it trickles in now. Plus food program!

Glad you found somewhere!!! happyface happyface
