    How to tie a shoe

Does anyone have any tricks on how to teach the kids how to tie their shoe? DS just turned 6 and we started working on it. It's a disaster! He's a gifted child, so most things come easily to him. However, as soon as something is a bit challenging, he gets frustrated & cries, I get frustrated with him, and well, you get the picture. I know there's the 2 bunny ear way, but we didn't try that yet. He struggles with making just one bow, I don't know how he'd make 2. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

All I can say is consistent practice. It takes a while for little hands to master this skill. My daughter just learned how to do this but it took her months of practicing. I would always encourage her to keep trying. When she got frustrated, we just took a break. "Practice makes perfect" really is a daily saying in our house!
      Good luck!!

This is a great suggestion QualiTcare. We have one of these but my kids weren't quite old enough to use it when my hubby first bought it. I think it might be time to dig it out now!

Ok, lets see if I can explain this and not confuse everyone.....my dad took two shoe laces that were different colors, cut them in half and knotted them together to make one shoelace for each shoe. Each lace was half one color, half another. Then he laced my shoes so that when he was done each side of the shoe had a lace that was a different color....it helped me learn super easily because I could actually see where each lace was going when I tried to do the bunny ear thing. It seems like most kids have trouble keeping track of which lace is which one when they are trying to wrap and tuck and twist and tie or do whatever directions are given to them. Having each lace be a different color visually showed me where each lace went and I could "see" what I was doing. Hopefully, that makes sense.......I used this with both my kids too and it works!
