    California Exception

Hi everyone. I will be starting a home daycare soon, a while back someone mentioned I may be able to apply for an exception to open a large home daycare instead of having to run a small one for a year first. This was mentioned because I have been a professional nanny for the last 11 years. So it was said because I have been in a professional career with children i may qualify for an exception, does anyone know any information regarding this? Thank you!

      ● Meet experience requirements if you will be operating a Large Family Child Care Home (up to 14 children)
✓ At least one year of experience either as a licensed Small Family Child Care Home provider or as
an administrator, director, or teacher at a licensed Child Care Center
✓ Verification may include copies of previous licenses or a written statement from your previous employer on company letterhead. The letter should verify your job duties and length of employment

not sure working as a nanny would qualify

Thank you! Yes I'm not sure? I was paid on the books and it can all be very verified. Are you from california? I was thinking I could go to the person orientation vs. The online one and maybe ask these questions. What do you think?

It is very rare in CA that licensing offers a variance or exception. CA is one of the hardest states to get one and they don't typically give them out without good cause. I'm licensed and have a good repertoire with my analyst and asked to be able to have my friend that is a nanny (BG checked, CPR, TB tested, all according to licensing regulations for fcc since I use her for a sub) come over with the 2 children she cares for and hold play dates. It would put me over ratio but the 2 kids would have their own adult ... nope. She didn't allow it. We go to the park for play dates.

I've had her for years and know her well since I'm on the board of our local child care association so I call her regularly to get info for our members and I've always had my license in good standing and I still couldn't get a variance. My friend is even listed on my licensing forms and zilch.

The thing is that they want people to know what it's like to watch 6-8 kids first before they take on 12-14.

Okay! Gotcha!!!! It won't be the end of the world to do a small daycare first, what's the process like going from small daycare to large? Is it difficult?
