Elo pillow--really cool product for naptime!

I have a family friend who is a pediatrician. He is helping launch and market this new product for kids called the Elo pillow. I got to test out one of them today. It was really, really cool.

Basically, it's a pillow that tells you a story--BUT it ONLY works if your head is resting on the pillow! You lift your head up, the story stops. Put your head down, the story starts up right where it left off. You can only hear it when you are lying down. You can download stories for 99 cents, any story you can imagine, tons of kids' favorite books... you can control it with a smart phone to choose which story will play or to turn it off if your child falls asleep. Otherwise it turns off when the story is over.

It's marketed for kids ages 2 through 8. I think they are going on sale in July. I'd love to get my hands on enough for every kid in my daycare for naptime!!! Just imagine--such a great way to get kids to stay in their beds! And a perfect solution for what to do with older kids who are in the process of dropping their naps but still need rest.

Of course, each pillow runs roughly $100

Still, I thought it was pretty cool.

I would absolutely love that. My kids drive me crazy with the nightly "reading time" and don't get me wrong, I am a huge book lover and can appreciate children wanting to read but man they make it so annoying every night it's not even a nice quiet peaceful story reading time, it's just hustle and bustle and bed making and bed jumping and lights on and yelling and their excuse - still trying to "read", still gotta "read" my book mom.... ugh .

If we had that pillow then there would be no need for lights or all the hub-bub, just lay down and listen to your story until you fall asleep - HOW NICE!!!

Yes, I agree! My son has a hard time falling asleep. He wants ENDLESS stories! I could see myself reading a few stories, and then letting him fall asleep with his story pillow.

        Cool idea!

I upload my books on CD to one big CD file.

I play them during rest time....with the volume just low enough that they have to lie still to hear it.

50% of my kids do not actually sleep during rest time but 100% of them lie still listening to the story.

A pillow is a good idea but not for the cost....

Plus, if I had one for my son...being the inquisitive kid that he was...he would have had that pillow apart in seconds so he could "see" how it worked. ::

Also, what happens if all your DCK's have one but they are all listening to different stories on different pages and figure out how fun it is to lift your head randomly to drive your provider crazy... ::

The "chatter" of the pillows would be a slow death for me.

LOL! I am laughing at the mental image of the daycare kids figuring out how to work this system! I too would go crazy and my son would have that pillow to pieces in minutes out of curiosity! Honestly though i do think it is a very creative and even useful idea! It FOR SURE beats putting kids to bed with the tv on in their room...which seems to be a current trend :-\
