OT Ideas For 13 Year Old

My daughter is about to turn 13. Any suggestions for a meaningful gift?

I am taking her clothes shopping (every year I offer a party or shopping, this year she finally chose shopping). I would also like to give her something memorable of her 13th birthday.

I was thinking maybe an Alex and Ani bracelet?

Or maybe a personalized photo book of her 13 years?

My parents gave me a beautiful journal on my 13th birthday.

I still to this day journal on a regular basis. Looking back over all my journals now, it is/was a wonderful way to "record" my growing up years as well as somewhat entertaining and funny to go back and read them now so maybe if your DD is at all a writer, she could benefit from a journal.

The teen years are hard so I also think it was a great outlet for all that teenage angst.

A floating locket? There are thousands of ideas for what to put inside and most places will let you design your own, birthstone, special things she likes, a saying in the background? I want one for me! I told my DH to add that to my Christmas list

I got my daughter a necklace on her 13th birthday and thought it was so thoughtful and sentimental, later she told me she would only like cash in the future. She never wore the necklace at all. She did start out by saying how thoughtful it was and that she appreciated it (all in a very mature tone) but I was irritated by it . Welcome to the teenage years!

Maybe a quilt of some of her old baby onesies, old t-shirts/clothes or cool fabric swatches. Or try to see if you can make some old pictures of her transferable and make a quilt with her pictures. Or a even a scrap book of her life.

Also, What are her interests? Hobbies? What does she like? Maybe try to give her something that is meaningful to both of you. Do you both like to cook? Try a cookbook. Do you both like music/theater? Try a play or concert. Does she like animals? Maybe tickets to an aquarium or a zoo.

As long as it's something either she or you both enjoy and it's well thought out, it will be meaningful.

You can also try something that can be a symbol of coming of age/growing up, like a family heirloom or a locket/earrings. If there is something of yours she likes (like a piece of jewelry) if you are willing to part with it, you can try to "pass it down" to her.

As long as it's something either she or you both enjoy and it's well thought out, it will be meaningful.
