I feel really stupid being a grown woman and afraid like this! If another woman were telling me this about herself, I would look at her like she's pathetic and tell her to get a grip!

Thank you all for your support and concern. I truly am scared out of my mind here, but have no money to leave and have been trying to figure out what is causing these noises and weird shadows for almost two years, but can never find anyone or anything that would be causing it.

I can't believe I watched the whole video but I have been reading this post since it started. There are a few sounds about a half hour in that would have made me run out of the house. What is that sound at 38:40 minute mark? Do you ever hear noises THAT loud when you are home? I'm not sure of the layout of your home but if there is a window in the basement I would make a point to not set up the flip cam one day and pretend to leave and watch through the window. I would also consider calling an exterminator. They could see where walls may be loose And maybe do a bugbomb

        Hope,

I'm not sure, but the sound at 38:40 might be my sump pump turning on. I don't know if you read the description of the video or not, but I wrote that in the description. However, I don't know what sump pumps sound like. Do you know if the sound could be my sump pump?

I have watched through my windows numerous nights, at different times of the night - just for up to 10 minutes or so. I keep waiting for a neighbor to call the police on me when I do that! : I also very often, especially when coming home late at night, drive down my back alley, stop at my house, and look in my windows of the basement and each floor of the house for a few minutes. When I leave my house and when I arrive back home, I often also sit out front and look through the windows before I get out of my car. I have never seen anything or anyone when I check on the house from outside.

Since I do daycare and allow many different families into my home (who might bring bugs along with them), I typically have Terminex service my home. Up until maybe 2 months ago, I had Terminex come on a routine basis (every couple of months) for a little over a year. I had to stop the service because my ex said he would pay them, and did, until the last couple of months. Then he kept forgetting to pay them. I didn't ask them to look for anything weird with my walls (false walls or loose walls), but they never said anything was wrong with or weird about my walls.

The noise at 38:40... Well... It could be a sump pump, but I of course can't be sure. There is a faint gurgling noise right after it shuts off that does sound like water, which is why I think you may have guessed right..

If you search for sounds of sump pumps...you will find other videos on Youtube that show the sound one makes....

The weird sound at 38:40 DOES sound like the sump pump.

Also for those of you who don't have time to listen to the whole thing, I just queued the video and fast forwarded to the time I wanted to listen to...I didn't have to listen to the whole video just to get to that part.

There are a lot of bumping sounds, which could be something, an animal, maybe in your vents running around..could also be air/gases settling in the vents? But, there is also a sound at one point that sounds like a light switch and after a bump, like a box moving around, it totally sounds like shuffling feet for a second.

Edited to say= light switch or a lighter...

That is definitely your sump pump. Did you notice at 37:44ish there is a blip in the filming. Likely just a technology glitch.

                  Daycaremum,

I had not noticed, but now that you point it out, yes, I see that the picture kind of jumps at 37:44.

I don't have a sump pump so I can't say but that sound is loud!! Do you hear it upstairs? Does is usually turn on within 5 mins of rain? Definitely a lot of little shuffly and vague sounds but nothing obvious but the possible sump pump sound.

No, I never hear that noise upstairs. I have never heard that noise before. I just assume it might be the sump pump because it was raining. But honestly, I have no idea if rain has anything to do with the sump pump. I need to research what a sump pump is. I have been in the basement numerous times, but have never heard the sump pump turn on. I have no idea what it sounds like.

I just googled 'sump pump noise' and selected videos. Yeah, the loud sound on my video sounds like a sump pump.

I just posted this on the update for this thread and thought I would post it here as well. I really didn't mean to start conversations on the update thread. I just wanted to let everyone know that I had posted the video, but I meant for the conversation to continue on this original thread.

Anyway, this is what my sister and her ex said about the video....

My sister and her ex-husband (who used to live in an old townhouse like mine) watched the video and think that the noises are all a mix between the pipes, water heater, and the neighbors moving about in their home.

But that still doesn't explain my daughter's furniture being moved in the basement overnight, her seeing a person walking toward her in the middle of the night when she had her bedroom in the basement, me feeling the pressure of someone sitting on my bed, my younger daughter feeling someone shake her arm to wake her up, me seeing red eyes and orange eyes in my hallway overnight, my front house door occasionally being unlocked in the morning, the front door being unlocked and opened about an inch after we know we closed it and locked it when we left the house, food being missing, things being moved on counters/shelves, a loaf of bread showing up out of nowhere, the strange shadows that we have all seen and my daughter distinctly hearing a female (that was not me or my younger daughter) call her dog by his name and tell him that he was okay twice in a row.

I might not have caught it on this video, but something or someone is in this house.

Now, my sister's ex lived in houses like mine years ago, but I owned a house exactly like this one about 10 years ago and I don't remember hearing noises like the ones on the video. And I know I never heard noises like the ones that have made me run out of my house in the middle of the night and sleep in my car!

So I'm not 100% sure that I agree with my sister's ex.

PV, I'm sorry you're dealing with this! I have lived with a haunting, myself, so I know what you're going through. Well...kind of. Mine was not exactly the same, and we didn't have a potential human intruder, but still. Your daughter is not the only person to have been woken in the night like that!

                              Item #1: CAMERAS!

Item #2: Get somebody to go through your entire house, attic included, to investigate.I know you don't have a lot of money (something I understand all too well), but as soon as you can get some together (or borrow from someone, anyone!) you should get a home inspector or a contractor to come out and look for anything that might allow someone to come and go...secret entrances, false walls, etc. etc. Anything. They also need to check that uncapped gas thing. Maybe you know someone whose son or sister-in-law or whatever does something like that and you could get a discount. You never know. Just find SOMEONE. Did you say there are old boxes up in the attic? Bonus points if you can get a teen up there to get the boxes out and pitch them.

Item #3: Did you say your preacher won't bless your house? Find someone who will bless your house (or whatever). Like, yesterday. Frankly I think you should just smudge the crap out of your house, but if you're not comfortable with that, get someone else in there to do something you ARE comfortable with, ASAP.

Item #4: start writing these things down. Get a notebook and make note of EVERY weird thing you see/hear, with the date and time. Especially as it pertains to things like your door being unlocked/open, bread mysteriously appearing, food disappearing, etc.-- things that would point to a person, rather than a spirit. You might even want to color code somehow, like write all the potentially supernatural stuff in blue ink and all the stuff that indicates a real human in red. You might even want to note when you talk to the house and tell "it" to knock it off. That way, after a while you might be able to look back and see a pattern. Would that be useful? Maybe. How? I don't know. It might show you that this person, if there is one, is more active at the end of the month, or on Tuesdays, or something, and that might give you a little clue. Who knows. Can't hurt, right?

Also, next time you notice an uptick in activity that makes you think its a person, pay attention to your shower/s. If this person is in need of food, they may also be in need of a shower, you know? I can't think of any good ways to booby trap it so you'd know if it had been used, but someone else might have some ideas. Maybe the toilet, too.

Item #5: Get in touch with local paranormal investigators. These are not typically people who want to play with spirits for fun; they are generally people who honestly want to help you find out what's going on. They might have some good tips for you. If activity picks up again, see if you can get them to come out and investigate your house. This is often helpful, rather than harmful. They're not satanic or anything.

Can you get rid of your daughter for a few days this summer? Send her to visit a friend, or stay with an aunt or her sister for a few days? Band camp? Something? That would give you some time to do things. I would try to ship her off, then while she is gone, have the paranormal investigators in [if necessary], then the home inspector/hidey-hole finder/brave box removing teens, and finally a clergy person of some kind to bless your house (in as quick a succession as you can). (Or bless it yourself, you might be able to find some Christian resources on this on the internet somewhere.)

                              Good luck. This is nuts!

                                Duchess Ravenwaves,

I haven't thought to write everything down. I'm more of a talker than a note taker. I'm sure it would be helpful to keep a written record of everything. Like you said, I might be able to see a pattern which might help me catch whoever/whatever it is. So far, everything seems random, but if I write it down, I might notice that it's on certain days of the week or dates of the month.

My preacher didn't say he would not bless the house, and I didn't ask him to bless the house. Blessing the house didn't come up at all. I told him what has been going on here and he told me to strengthen my faith. Honestly, I have never particularly felt a connection with this preacher. I really liked and connected with our old preacher. But he moved a couple of years ago.

Regarding the home inspector idea, I don't own this house, I rent. And I absolutely hate (I don't use that word often) the landlord. He is a slumlord and obviously thinks woman are lower than dirt. He is very rude, disrespectful, demeaning, etc. to me. But he's nice with my ex-husband - who doesn't even live here! So, I can't hire any professional company to inspect the house without getting my landlord involved. I'd rather deal with Satan himself than my landlord!

I'm going to have to get someone to get the boxes out of the attic for me.

Thank you for your ideas and suggestions. I plan to put the camcorder in the basement tonight. I 'll let everyone know if I capture anything on it.

My daughter has her last school day and her last set of final exams tomorrow. I am trying to wait until she gets out of school before I get too hot and heavy with going through the house and getting cameras (when and if I can ever afford them). I want her to be able to get well rested each night so she can do as best as possible on her finals. Tomorrow's her last day of school. After tomorrow, I'm planning to hit this mess head on!
