    Filling Spots

    Hi,

I am in the process of becoming licensed and will be opening soon. I am going to start interviewing families next week.

I was wondering if anyone had a good way to keep track of their daycare children and ages. For example how to fill spots for when children age into the next spot; A toddler becoming a preschooler; this would over fill your preschool spot!

    I hope this makes sense!!

Where I live, I can keep a certain number of children 18 months and younger, a certain number of children ages 18 months-3 years, and a certain number of children 4+. The older a child gets the more children in that age bracket you can typically have no matter where you reside.

I just monitor my lowest age bracket (I take children ages 2-5 so I look at 2-3 year olds) and see when they will be turning 4 if I am working alone. If I have someone helping me I can have 11 infants for all they care. If I am working alone, I watch when the 6th child that is between ages 2-3 turns 4 and then I know I can accept another child in, if there is a spot, that is younger than 4.

Does that make sense? I am legally licensed for 12 so it isn't terribly difficult to keep track of this. I tend to just write the date that they will be 4 next to their name on my "class list." Those that are 4+ don't have a date listed next to it so I know that I am easily within ratio guidelines.

In CA I'm licensed for 8. I can only have two under the age of 2 and two must be s/a.

I really only keep track of when a child will turn 2, because it opens up an infant spot.

When a preschooler starts school (which will happen this fall) it isn't a factor, because I will continue having that child B/A school...so the spot is still taken.
