Dcg comes in crying and taking on this a.m.; she's 2 1/2 yo. I asked if she was okay. He said 'oh she was great until I wouldn't let her bring her cup in'. He asked her to take off her coat and shoes so he could get a hug. She just sat on the floor and cried. So he asked again. More crying. So he says, okay, bye, I'll see you tonight' and out the door he goes.
Now why can't they all do that instead of doing the whole coddling at the door, trying to make everything better so they don't have to leave their child that way, etc., etc. If a dck comes in like that, sometimes it takes the parent a good 1/2 hour to separate themselves and get off to work. Yes, kids cry. Kids get over it. They get distracted by me, their friends, whatever. But as long as the parent is trying to make everything all better for them in a couple minutes so they can dash out the door, it ain't gonna happen.
I was so happy when I saw him being a strong parent.
