    CA Provider Question About Subs...

Ok so I've been lucky that my dh has been available to help me with the kids appts or staying here for me to go if needed. Well he's potentially switching jobs and I have way more kids now than I did in the past. I have 3 dental appts for my kids coming up and can't get a sub for the life of me! I had one girl in mind but she's not available the 2 days I need her. I have 2 other leads but both have 2 kids and that would throw me off ratio wise so I would have to take 2 kids with me anyway. Lame!! What is the criteria for a sub vs an asst? Like my dh has his fingerprints on file for my license, but doesn't have his CPR or Prev Health & Safety class. I know an assistant who is here needs to have all 3 of those things, but does a sub? Can someone who just has their Trustline done and CPR? I'm really freaking out about this now and how I'm going to manage the appts without closing. It's only a couple hours here and there but I'm a stickler for rules and want to know. I don't have a licensing contact person as no one is assigned to my area.

Even a sub has to have TB test, Background check and CPR certification (the 2 day CA Child Care one).

Have you thought about calling your local R&R for large FCC's and calling them to see if they have someone that has hours they need to fill?

I have contacted a Large FCC and posted on a FB group for assistants, and I have a couple leads, but two have 2 kids and that would force me to take 2 kids with me to make it work since I have 2 infants and 4 other that day and both have 1 infant. My dh has his TB test and Trustline, but hasn't taken the classes and I can't rely on him to with his new job anyway. I had a girl lined up who had all this stuff supposedly but now she can't work those days.

I will have to contact the R&R and see if they have leads...

Yeah it tough to find a good sub. I'm going through this also. I wish there was a reliable adult that would get CPR certified, TB tested and background checked and that had no kids that would start a FCC Substitute business . This way when we would have to set appointments or when we got sick we had someone to call to sub for us. I guess this is why the majority of FCC providers close when they have appointments.

Yeah or have spouses who can take off, grandparents who can help, etc. It may be easier to find someone who can take my kids to the dentist then find a sub.

I used to live in CA, now in NV but that is a great idea. They have care.com and such for babysitters, why not set something up like that for substitutes? I think you gave me a new business plan

I am just starting out so have not even thought of a sub but as it is I haven't even found anyone I like to watch my own kids I am picky !
