Just Had The Freakiest Thing Happen!

Sharing in case this might save someone from freaking out like I just did.

I have a baby with long, amazing eyelashes. He was playing just fine, and all of a sudden started to cry a distressed cry. I picked him up and he was rubbing his eye and very upset. It was impossible to tell what was going on at first, because he didn't want me looking at his eye. At first inspection the outer white of his eye was not there-all dark colored. Eek. I was wondering if he'd been bitten by a bug or had a bug in his eye or something, then I realized that half of his upper eyelashes were gone. I freaked out inside my head, and finally realized that he had gotten his upper lashes stuck under his lower eyelid. I had to lay him down and spread his upper and lower eyelids apart from one another to free the stuck lashes. I am not even kidding when I say that it looked like a horror movie.

Filing this one under Things They Don't Tell You About When Signing Up For This Job. OMG.

I have rubbed my eyelid inside out before and I know that hurts a lot. Can't imagine being a little baby and just having the eyelashes stuck there inside the lid and being powerless to fix it. This gave me quite a scare today.

Sounds like what I was thinking, too. I don't think I've ever been so freaked out by a child care moment as I was with this one. All I could think was bug or spider in the eyeball. Another one for the books. Baby was back to happy and playing within a minute or so of the eyelash fix! Whew.

Who knew THAT could happen? I have little stubs for eyelashes, so certainly not me. ::

my son has those kinds of lashes (my daughter complains that she should have gotten those) and even as a tween he will scream when it happens and I have to help him. The price of beauty.
