Wow- it wouldn't have been as bad had she been nice and in a friendly tone said something like "did I forget?" or "was I supposed to bring home...?" instead of just demanding them from you and blaming you for not giving them to her! Soooo rude
I charge a registration fee to cover the cost of pillow, pillowcase and blanket for each new child. I also raised my rates for new clients last year and included MORE than enough to cover supplies. I was THAT sick of having the right items, including the right sizes and amounts of diapers. I buy two cups for each child, all diapers and wipes. I won't be out anything if they no show next, everyone has the SAME STYLE of everything, just in a different color. It really worked out well. Now a child will say "That's N's, it's yellow. Yellow is his color."
I was so annoyed that I couldn't let it go. I sent dcm an email telling her what happened- that her Mom showed up irate, after hours, without notifying me ahead of time, looking for items I had purchased for S. I told her that if it happens again, I will have to terminate the child care contract. Dcm didn't respond. If she doesn't mention it next week, I WILL be bringing it up.
Her Mom already annoyed me because she blocked in someone else trying to leave(4 car driveway with parking at the street, too!) , did NOT get the hint when I handed her the jacket and bag of dcg's things and wanted to chat for 20 minutes about S being a million dollar miracle baby, how smart she is (a little behind for her age, due to preemie issues, etc). I ended up having to take the jacket away, dress dcg, put on her shoes, and start walking her out saying BYE S! Friends, say BYE TO S! over and over.
In addition, I also reuse the same color for new children. I keep the cups, pillow, pillowcase and blanket and will issue a new child that color. I am making money off the deal, get a tax deduction for items, and parents see all the 'perks'.
I think your system is wonderful and if I ever grow any larger, I will absolutely institute this.....I have been thinking about doing this in the fall because frankly, I am sick of the items coming and going, inappropriate diapers/clothing/food so whatever makes my life easier is what I will do. I am considering some changes for the fall. So that way the parents will bring a sack lunch each day (I am not on the food program), a change of clothes to remain here and that is it! My parents are pretty good about this sort of thing but I could always streamline it even more. I have had a tough time this year with appropriate outerwear and shoes so I have even considered providing play shoes to change into and keeping a supply of simply lined windbreakers.

Yup, it's just easier. I am slowly building my stash from consignment shops and garage sales to include 6 pair of snow pants, hats, gloves (neutral colors) and 6 sets of boots so that NOTHNG is needed. Same for summer. I bought towels in the right colors, I supply sunscreen, water bottles (colors to match their color found at Michaels for $1.50 each last year) and now have enough suits for everyone.

I want to do this too. Once I get more established.
'course it would be even NICER if parents would just "man up" and supply the crap their kid needs without us needing to ask/beg/order/etc.

Not sure if it helps, but one thing I now bring up in the interview is that I am CLOSED after hours and will not do business once I am closed. Too many parents calling to see if child left this or that item here or if they could stop by to pick something up or showing up on a Saturday afternoon to leave payment
I truly think these parents think we are some kind of daycare elves than live solely to tend to their children . That we require no bathroom breaks, dont need to eat, bathe, sleep, shopor clean. It all just magicly happens with our little wands and fairy dust. That's the only reason I could think they pull all the crap they do. As for the cups I recently bought a supply after a dad had a tantrum because he thought another child had his sons cup. Could not conceive that hey, alot of us shop at walmart. That and I have a little that thinks its the funniest thing to run and hide his cup. So I tell the parents that I have cups now. Tso daysin the mom thats always irritating me about something, starts telling me this cup thing isnt working for her because she has places to go after pick up. Slaps hand to head , seriously cant think she can leave one in the car or his bag. I really think she just likes to annoy me. The trouble is shes connected to 4 of. my moms and she knows it. But ive about had my fill of her trying to run the show and taking advantage of me in every way she can.

You know, I have terminated people that are "connected" to other daycare moms. Just because they are connected doesn't mean they are the same family. You have to do business with each family as if they were their own family...not base your decisions on their relationships with others.
For the record, the friends of the people terminated are still here and just fine. In fact, they sing my praises to others.
I hope Grandma/Mom gives you an apology today and tells you it won't happen again. Crazy!
