    He Said What?

I have to tell this story because I'm just like "what"!
Dcb of my dcm that is obnoxious hit me today. I usually don't like telling her things because she is very dramatic, but felt I should tell her that he hit me and was throwing himself down today because he's not usually like that-he is 21 months old and I know it happens at that age. So I told her and she tells him to say "I'm sorry". Dcb mutters something like uheomedi and I say "thank you L". Dcm looks at me and says "did you hear him, he said Im sorry?, say it again L" so L says it again and it sounded like unhoomedoo or something like that and dcm says "see". Then she proceeds to tell me that one night he hit twice and she wasn't as nice as I was and that she put him in his crib for 45 min..so she could calm down! And she's a preschool teacher!

Are you kidding me? She has said that he has said things in the past and believes that he says things clear as day and it's not even close to what the word is supposed to be! She tries to make Dcb seem more advanced than he is, but will make little comments about how he is compared to others and thinks something is wrong if he doesn't do what they do.

I just don't get it! Does she really think he says things as clear as day? So strange.

I sympathize with you! But I also had to :::: because it reminds me of all the people who sing the wrong words to songs and then when you say something they look at you like "what???"

That's funny! :: Maybe she has mom ears that can distinguish his mumbling and jabber for actual words? Like the moms who's baby's are SO cute
In their eyes!? The face only a mother could love kind. LOL or look just like Aunt Lucille? Hahaha! :: Sometimes teacher/childcare parents are worse than the others! I'm experiencing that myself for the first time this week!

I don't know... My son is 21 months old too and talks a ton, like full sentences these days, but words he's just learning or words with many syllables come out jumbled for awhile until he gets it. I always understand him since I'm with him always and have learned his individual ways of pronunciation. Could be his mom can understand him better and he really was saying I'm sorry!

eek. I have more of an issue with a 45 minute timeout......or a parent that gets that fired up they need 45 minutes to calm down.....

preschool teacher? wow. scary. you would think she would be more aware of child development.

I see what you're saying, my son is also 21 months old and he does the same and there are words that my dh and I know he is saying and no one else does, but they were right in front of me and she had him say it to me. I heard him say it and it was nothing like the word at all. She does this all the time and has done it for a while now, otherwise I wouldn't had given it a second thought, you just have to know this woman.

I agree. She has said some off the wall stuff to me. That is why I don't tell her anything unless it's something out of the ordinary for the dcb, like today.

She even told me one day that she doesn't know if she can deal with the pre-k kids. She tried to work for public school systems, but couldn't handle it. She also has a degree in elem. ed with an emphasis on special education!

It is called lack of word separation.

I learned to speak English by word separation/sylobols.

When you sing/talk fast words blend together and sound like one word.

Try slowing down your speech, speaking/clapping sylobols and you will see a huge difference. All of my day care kids 18 month to age 5 can say with great pronunciation the pledge of allegiance. I take that back my newest 18month old cannot.

Just like when kids recite the alphabet and say "LMNO" like it is one letter

                        Love this! So true.

I'm going to ignore the 45 minute time out thing here ...

My son had a speech issue until this year (now he's almost 7). For years people needed me to translate. In the early years it really was just me who could understand him.

She probably does think he's advanced. I think my little guy is pretty amazing too ;-) Don't we all do that just a little?
