    Would you do this?

DCF went from 5 days full time to 2 days part time a couple weeks ago.

Now DCF says they want to do 2 afternoons only, on two different days, if possible. Totals about 3 hours per week.

Right now I charge them 80 for 2 days. I just told a kid that they can't come for those same two days in May (and it's too late to go back on that).

I can totally make it work for the two afternoons they want and the two days that they currently come I work alone (the other 3 days I have an assistant).

Obviously my dilemma is the money. I really don't want to take yet another pay cut from this family.

Mom says she wants to make this change because she will make more money. But unless it's going to make ME more money why should I bother? Especially if I'm getting a pay cut to boot! grrrrrrr The only benefit for me is that I have one less kid on my working alone days. ...

I would tell her it'd be the same price to reserve a spot two days no matter how few hours she used if you couldn't or didn't want to take a pay cut.

Yes. And I would start interviewing. Sounds like they are trying to find out how to save money by cutting daycare - which is fine, but no reason for you to hang around until they cut you out completely.

This is what I do. I have a daily rate and they pay that no matter if they use 1 hour or 10 that day. It's not worth it to me to make any less.

Me too. The rate is the same no matter how little or long the child is here, just to simplify things for me.

I agree with the above, no pay rate change no matter how many hours they use - the spot is theirs for the day. But I would also take into consideration when they will be dropping off, will it be during nap time, etc.? I used to offer a half day but the midday drop off or pick up was disruptive to my schedule so now the shortest contracted hours I offer is 9:30-3:30.

I got tired of sorting out hours attended/scheduled so I started billing by the day.

Then I got tired of all the changes and same things that happened before but now on a daily scale verses an hourly one so I went to a weekly rate.

BEST move ever!! Now if a child attends even a single minute of a week, they owe me the weekly rate.

Makes ME more money and keeps my budget in tact when families have little hiccups in scheduling.

Sure to half days, no rate change though. There is no way to fill the other 2 half days.

                    I would be advertising.

"It's great you will be making more money and will be able to spend with DCK! My rate is still $80 for two days per week whether it is all day or just the afternoon - I don't do half day rates."

I should do this, but then all of my p/t children will probably quit; I like having a couple of days when I have one less child
