    I'm Grumpy

I've been so grumpy all weekend about this, and I totally need to get it off my chest if that's ok with you guys. I have a parent who pays me on Fridays for the following week that his kids will be in care (per my advance-payment contract). Saturday he texts me and says his kids won't be in care all week, and could he please use this week as the annual vacation week. AND can he please have his money back.

I was SO mad at first, but then I started thinking about all the days and weeks his kids weren't in my care, but he drove all the way to my house to pay me anyway. He's the #1 best parent ever as far as payment goes. So I gave him the refund, but gave him a reminder that next year's vaca must come with a two week notice, as outlined in my policy handbook.

I'm trying to let it go, but it was pretty rude, right? If his employer told him on Monday morning that he had to take the day off and give 20% of his paycheck back that he received the previous Friday, would he be annoyed?

That's so annoying... and it's so rude. You were very nice to give him a refund. I'd do the same for ONE of my families

I would be upset and wouldn't have refunded. Good parent or not, rules are rules. I'd be upset about the short notice

My policy is 2 week's notice of vacations, also they pay for their vacation weeks.

Do you know why he needed to cancel and get a refund? Maybe something came up financially or family emergency and he had no choice. Also, something I always try to remember, fretting about it only affects you not him, so try not to let it make you grumpy! Disclaimer: this advice is easier to share than to follow!

I would never give a refund.I would have at best held the money for the next weeks care. How does he know you haven't used the money for a bill or something. You are way nicer than I am.Payment is due regardless of attendance here.

Do you have anything in your contract regarding refunds? I would have told him no refund but you could give him a credit. Im sorry I use my money for bills, I don't have it laying around just to hand back. I would look into adding it to your contract. It makes things alot easier.

I would have also used the $$ to credit the next week , not given it back .

But I also get paid when families take vacation so in reality I should not even be giving a credit.

I am a softie though so if there was a family emergency I might give the credit.

This is why I have a "no refunds" and "no vacation days" policy. I used to allow families to take vacations but then they pull stunts like this...I had one family email me on Christmas Eve saying they wanted to use their vacation days for the next week.

                So rude....
