Got a JOB!!! How to Word Letter to Parents?

    happyfacehappyfacehappyface

I got a job today!! I will be making what I am making now with daycare(wish it was a little more, but at least it is not less). Start date is May 19th. My husband suggested I tell the parents my last day is May 14th to give myself a little vacation. I can't charge the parents for those two days...but what happens if they start their new daycare on the 12th? Do I still charge them through the 14th?

And, any suggestions on the best way to do a letter to the parents? Or should I just tell them in person?

I am so happy. I have been burned out on this for a long time. I can't wait to have my house back to looking like a house, not a romper room. happyface

Congrats on the new job!happyface I agree with your dh about taking a mini vacation. I'd probably do an in person conversation with a follow up note to send home so they have record of my last day.

I'm not very professional in my notes so I'm not much help on that. Sorry.

I would be prepared for clients to leave as they find other care arrangements. ETA: and personally, I wouldn't charge them if they leave sooner. I'd just enjoy my quieter days before the new job.

I already had a vacation day scheduled for May 2nd....should I keep it as a vacation day, or work it?

        Keep it!

maybe start with "I have some news. I have received a job offer, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to take it. DH and I are sitting down tonight to discuss the details, and I'll fill you all in tomorrow. Just wanted to give you a heads up so it's not such a shock. "

Then, right your termination letter, with an ending date, and give to everyone tomorrow.

        Dear DCF's:

It's with mixed feelings that I am announcing the closing of my daycare. I have enjoyed getting to know all of you, and your lovely children, over the past x years.

I have received a job offer that is just too good to pass up. Therefore, the last day I will be providing care is May 14, 2014. Of course, your children will continue to receive the same high-quality care throughout that time.

Just a reminder: Tuition will continue to be due throughout the notice period, as stated in our contract. The scheduled vacation day of May 2, 2014, still stands.

Please let me know if there is anything I can do to make this transition easier for everyone. The number for the resource and referral agency is:

        Sincerely,

        Your provider

        tweak as you will...

Thank you all! I agree, the letter Heidi posted sounds perfect, no tweaking. And I will have to remember the sidekick as each one leaves for the last time. At least when the baby screams because I am not interacting with her every 2 seconds, and the 2 yr old is having a temper tantrum, and the other spoiled brats do their things to push my buttons, I can just smile and count down the days.

                Congratulations!!! What's the job?

How did you find time to go on interviews with running your daycare? I've thought about applying for different things, but knew it would involve days off - probably without much notice... like if I'm called back for a 2nd interview.

I am going to work for a dental prosthetic company making false teeth. LOL. Got to meet everyone already and they all seem like really laid back, nice people.

I had my mom come and watch the kids for me so I could go to the interviews.
