    Gripe Water

Does anyone know if Gripe Water is considered a medication? Do I need to have a parent sign a medication form before I give it to the baby? It consists of fennel, ginger, and water and it is put into baby's formula to help with tummy troubles. It does say "Keep out of reach of children" on the bottle.

I would since it's a non-food intended to ease symptoms. I would definitely CYA and consider it a medication.

I gather the parents have asked you to administer? Yes, I'd have them sign off on it. Anything that isn't typical food/drink, I'd have the parents to sign off to cover my you know what.

I used gripe water from time to time when my DS was very small (under 3 months old?) and seemed colicky. TBH, I'm not sure it ever did anything, but I guess it helped me to feel less helpless about his discomfort and crying and like I was actually doing something. I never put it in his formula, though. I gave it to him by mouth, via a dropper.
