Ok, it wont let me post a picture but its the wooden cubbies that you put the fabric baskets into. I think it would look better along that, not be so tall and looming, be more on the kids height. I put some in my preschool room and it changed the look ssoo much. I use to have the tall cabinet and its was ok but once I put in the cubby shelf, I fell in love with it.

I have had them in my kids closets for years and loved the way they looked in there also.
I've thought about something like that but there is still the height and climbing issue. Even the bookshelves I had there that were the exact same height as the railing (about three feet) didn't feel safe for the climbing issue. The entire rail need to be blocked, with no (reasonable) climbing risk.

In my other playroom (the main one, downstairs now) I have a lot of that style of shelf (the cubbies) and they're all right. I like them for the kid area. But the living room (the upstairs one) is serving as our living room, a homeschool room, and then a kind of preschool room/space to play while I'm getting lunch, snack, etc. I want the cabinets with doors to close off those toys when we're not playing, and to be able to latch shut the art supplies, the grown up games, the homeschool things....etc. Trust me. It's taken me three years to figure out what to do with that side of the room. Lots of thought. I'm just finally in a place to act on it.
Hee hee! Look, I have a signature!

I love the cubbies, but I agree on the height issue.

Weeeee! I agree, the cubbies look like too much fun..I mean what kid wouldn't want to climb up and jump off... Well not really funny, but kind of.
