Help With 9 Month Old Napping And Screaming Issue

I have a 9 month old who has been here since he was 3 months old. He has always been a relatively easy baby, a great sleeper, fairly independent. Downside, he is, by far, the loudest screamer I have ever met. He used to only scream if he was hungry, now he screams over everything. Over the last few days, if he is not sitting in my lap, being held (only by me, will not stay with my assistant without screaming), or standing between my legs with his head on my lap (if I'm sitting) then he is screaming. So far today, he stopped screaming for a total of 1 hour and 15 minutes (while he was sleeping). If he was awake, he was screaming.

Now for my other problem, he has learned to stand up in his pack n play. Once he does this, nap is over and he screams until I pick him up. If I try to lay him down (I've tried more than 30 times over a few minutes) he gets right back up more upset than before and screams even louder (if that's possible). He's starting to bother everyone else at nap time because he only sleeps for 30 minutes (used to be 2.5 hours) and then he's up screaming, he's even waking the kids who sleep in a bedroom on the opposite end of my home (with loud rain noises playing and a loud fan going in the bedroom with the other kids). Mom and dad said he's not like this at home and he's never been this way here. I don't know what to do other than get used to the screaming :-(. I can't term, this is a family friend and his parents are amazing clients and he was a great baby prior to this new turn of events.

    Help!!! TIA!

As far as going in and laying him back down, I'd do that once, at most. Not 30 x.

I'd just go in ONCE, say "still nap time", quietly, lay him down, and walk out.

    Put on louder fans/white noise.

    He WILL get it.

My 9 mo dcb has the "hey, you're here to entertain me" attitude quite often, too. Worst on Mondays, of course. Sometimes, if he can't see me, he's fine, but if he can, he's screaming to be carried about. Doesn't work! Worst case scenario (if he's following me around), I put him in his chair, give him some toys, and walk away. He usually recovers after a few minutes and plays.

Good advice. One time to say nap time.

And, don't hold him. Let him get used to being independent when he's playing and he will be more independent when he's sleeping. Hopefully.
