    Thanks DCD &DCM!

For bringing your 1yo and 2.5 yo with no sweaters or light jackets and the 1yo with no shoes, despite me addressing this issue with you multiple times before. We were really looking forward to going outside this morning but now unfortunately are unable to because 2 of the 6 children are inappropriately dressed!

No coats or shoes? I wouldn't have taken them

You are addressing it but not enforcing it, now everyone suffers. Send them home next time, they can return when dressed properly. Actions speak louder than words.

I definitely will be. Working on a letter to send home addressing the issue, again, as well as the actions next time it happens...

Anyone wanna help with wording since what I want to write right now is not so pleasant... =/

It's not too late to do it now. You could call and tell them "I assumed you had brought their coats and shoes and left them in the cubbies (or diaper bag). Since you did not I will have to ask you to bring them so we can all go outside, it's not fair to the others"

My dck's LOVE going outside and it's required in my state, I could not see keeping everyone in

I'd be calling mom or dad AT work and telling them we are ALL standing here ready to go outside but their child isn't prepared so they will need to come pick her up so the rest of the kids who DO have the REQUIRED outdoor gear can go.

I have only had to do this ONE time for any family that didn't think I was serious about their child needing shoes or coats.

I refuse to punish the rest of the kids who ARE prepared because one family didn't listen or follow through.

I wish I was brave enough to do that! I did send mom a very stern text re: this repeat issue and she apologized saying she reminded her husband but he must have forgot, blah blah blah. She is picking them up early as an apology and said she would talk to her husband again. I told her he'll learn pretty quick next time when he's getting back into the car with the kids instead of being able to drop them off, and she agreed.

This is one of the downfalls to becoming close with your families. I think I am unable to be as cut and dry as some of you because of it.

I do this, too. If your child arrives unprepared for the outdoors, you have 1 hour to either bring me the outdoor gear or else pick up your child for the day.

I've had to call dcps 3 times (same ones) since January

I have cubbies for each child and ask they leave a light jacket or heavy sweatshirt here as well. I know that leaving an extra winter coat for everyone probably wouldn't work, but maybe an extra layer would have been sufficient?

There is absolutely no way they'd get away with that at a large daycare center so why should they get away with it at your home daycare. I also think (like others) that you should call the parents and ask that either outdoor clothes be dropped off or the children be taken home.

There is also the health and safety aspect of this situation. What if you had to evacuate your home (fire, gas leak, etc)? These kids would need to be wrapped in blankets, and the one year old would have to be carried/held while you waited to be given the all-clear. Even if you had no plans to play outside, every child should arrive at daycare with weather appropriate outdoor clothing and footwear. Cause you just never know.
