Do you exclude when you know that the child is on antibiotics and their diarrhea is most likely due to their antibiotic usage?

I might. I don't automatically exclude for diarrhea-if the child has been on antibiotics or has a chronic illness, I will deal with diarrhea that is contained. If the diarrhea is out of the norm for the child (I think he/she is ill), I will exclude, but if I feel there is a reason for it, and it is staying in the diaper, I will keep the child if no other symptoms are present.- Flag

I have this same situation this morning! I will exclude if it's escaping the diaper, soaking through clothes, etc, because other kids could come in contact with it. I also wait to see if it's going to reoccur. I don't send home for just one.- Flag

I exclude if it cant be contained by a diaper or is accompanied by other signs of illness. At this point, the child is on medicine and I am assuming not showing any other symptoms since you didnt mention anything else so no, i would not exclude, unless it was multiple diaper explosions- Flag

I don't at all. My son was on constant amoxicillian (sp?) for months before he got ear tubes put in, and he was the king of diarrhea! There was nothing wrong with him, and he was in great spirits. I would have been really upset if his daycare center refused entrance based on that. I personally do not mind diarrhea unless it is caused by an illness. My policy is more than 4 bouts of diarrhea within a 3-hour window.- Flag

If the diarrhea is NOT contained within the diaper I will exclude.
My exclusion policies for diarrhea are in place so that no fecal matter contaminates any surface, area or person so if the diarrhea cannot stay IN the diaper, the child is excluded.
I don't care if they have diarrhea because of too many strawberries, consuming dairy or antibiotics.
Diarrhea NOT contained = exclusion.- Flag

Diarrhea NOT contained = exclusion.exactly... Antibiotic usage CAN cause a very infectious thing called c diff. It's VERY VERY contagious and can't be diagnosed without a stool culture. So since I don't have a laboratory facility at my house... I exclude even when I think it MAY be from antibiotics.
Just because someone on antibiotics gets diarrhea, we don't know if it's simply a side effect, c diff, or hat it's from another secondary virus they contracted due to a lower immune system.
I exclude the same, if not QUICKER. C diff is really nothing to play with. It can be fatal for that child as well as others in care.- Flag

If it wasn't able to be contained or was just liquid I would send home. I've had kids with really mushy stools from meds, teething, etc. but "diarrhea" is different. I have a DCB who always has blowouts and very runny stools but has had diarrhea before and it was totally different. Straight liquid multiple times that wouldn't stay in his diaper so he went home. Another DCG had diarrhea from teething last week and it was just once so she stayed, she was leaving soon anyway and went to the dr after, but if it happened again I would have sent her home.- Flag
