    Teacher Clients

I tried, for the first time this year, two teacher clients. I really enjoyed them as people and found them to be pretty realistic with things. However, as far as steady income goes? It didn't work.

One ended up moving from full-time to part-time once she had her second child and a couple of months later pulled entirely to be a SAHM.

The other is going to pull for the summer. Originally I was told they would keep him in to hold his spot. However, this works out fine as I will just place the child in the spot of one of my full-timers when they leave for Kindergarten. I will need to find someone to replace the child in 1.5 months to cover the income lost. I know the child will only return for late Aug.-early June this next year so I will plan accordingly.

I had heard many bad things and wanted to give my experience. I loved that they kept sick children home and followed the policies (never arguing). I didn't like the early drop-off times and the fact that they weren't enrolled for the entire year.

I have mostly teacher kids. (I work their same schedule.) I haven't found them to be consistently good or bad clients. I've had such a range in "quality" with teachers - just like any other type of demographic.

It's nice that they can slide into the spot of another aging out. At least that's a positive. They are lucky to have that timing.

I have one teacher client. They are awesome! Dcb is one of my favorites..However, his last day is the end of May. Mom is pregnant and is staying home. I do have his income replaced but, loved this family and this little one.

Your teacher experience has been similar to mine in the past.

Now, I only enroll if they promise they will be here long term, year round. I do not like turnover. AT. ALL . Bad for the kids, bad for me.

I have two teacher families now. If they decide to pull for summer I will not accept them back to care. Not even if I have openings and they pay double.

It is a small town, they can ask their co-workers if I mean it. ::

I keep my promises and I expect the same from them.
        - Unless otherwise stated, all my posts are personal opinion and worth what you paid for them.

I like working with teachers because the early hours work great for me, and I like cutting down my kid numbers in the summer to be able to give my own kids some extra attention while their home.
Some teachers are great, understand and comply to child care rules just like they would where they work, others....not so much. Has gone both ways here.

I've always had at least one teacher family, for the most part they have been great. Like others I like having a lighter load in the summer and the hours are good. They must pay half tuition during the summer and can bring dck 2 set days a week. All other time off is paid, most keep them home anyway, works for me.

same here… I have had great teachers and teachers from hell. This is the first year in a long time I don't have ANY teachers kids and I am dreading working all 5 days a week, LOL! My contract states they can either pay a fee or go part time for the summer, most choose to come 1-2 days a week - good days for mom to get other things done. Otherwise they lose their spot for Fall and with only 5 openings there is good chance there won't be an opening when they want to come back.

I have all school employees. I like having time off when my kids are off. Teachers are no different than any other parents. Some are good and some are bad. I am closed when school is closed, except for teacher workdays. I work a reduced schedule for the summer. This is my second year. Last summer I worked 3 days/week with the exception of my 2 week vacation. This year I changed it to 4 days/week with a 1 month closure for July. Not sure which way I will like it better. The only reason I made the change is because one set of parents works a 11 month school schedule instead of the 10 month like the rest.
