    So nervous

Is it normal so to say for a 14 month old to continue to get bruises on their head?? She just started walking alone last month and she is always falling on her head and getting bruised. Last week dad wasn't happy she fell and had a mark. Now a 2 year old just threw a toy and hit her and it's already bumping up! I'm so scared I'm gonna get yelled at. I just want to cry, it seems I can just not keep this child bump free no matter what I do. I only have 4 kids so it's not like I have too many to handle or lack of supervision. Will parents understand she's just walking you think?

every parent is different but fortunately I rarely get the super overprotective ones. Most are pretty understanding. I tell parents of new walkers to expect there to be at least one bump at any given time and as soon as one goes away another will take its place (and don't even schedule pictures because that's sure to mean a BIG bump will be coming the day before). I try to keep it lighthearted. It really helps when those bumps and bruises occur at home too. If they are super uptight I can tell them I will not let child free to explore and they can provide the bubble wrap. Can you tell I don't do well with that type of parenting???

They SHOULD understand. Kids at that age are injury magnets. I explain to parents bumps and bruises WILL HAPPEN. And when hey do, I fill out and send home a boo boo report.

I have a top heavy 2 year who is still bruising himself constantly. He gets bruised more at home than here so we don't even talk about it much anymore.

Ugh, I don't think it's happened at home yet at all. Just here last week and now this week. I just hate how it looks like I'm not paying attention.

As soon as they are mobile they will have them a lot but once they have been walking for a couple of months it usually gets better.

Yay for me then. ONLY another month or so of being up her butt so I don't get accused of something :-/

                Maybe try humor...

"Tell you what, DCD, how about you buy her a helmet so she stays beautiful?"

Honestly....look him in the eye, and say "Look, she just learned to walk, and she plays with other children. She is going to get bumps and bruises. It will prepare her for life. Save yourself and me the grief of worrying about it so much. You KNOW I'm taking good care of her".

Fill out injury reports, make sure DCP sign them and get a copy, put them in the DCKs file. For your protection.

Last month I had a DCM tell me DCD was taking pictures of the bump/bruise DCG11m got here as she was trying to walk to a toy and instead walked into the bookcase. I told her that was fine, let DCD know I will take pictures of all the bumps/bruises she will come here with in the next year as she learns to walk as well. Since then any bumps/bruises have been accepted differently. It helped that they pickup at the same time as DCM of DCB14m picks up. DCM of the 11m old DCG definitely loosened up when she saw that another child her daughters age was having similar incidents and the DCM of the 14m DCB was super easy going about it.

I like that, thank you! My first instinct is to appologize over and over again. That probably makes me look guilty, I've just heard such horror stories on here about problem parents.
