    Working Through An Agency?

I've been planning that when I start up my daycare, that I will initially work through an agency (YMCA or Early Years). The last time I provided in-home childcare I did so primary through an agency. The agency allowed me to care for children sourced through them and also children sourced privately. My DH has suggested that not all agencies may allow this.

I'm in Ontario Canada. Is there anyone else here from Ontario and providing in-home daycare through an agency? Do they allow you to care for children (to a max of 5 total children) via a private (non-agency) arrangement?

How about other areas besides Ontario Canada? Do they allow you to care for children outside of that agency? Or, is it "If you work for us you only take children through us."?

I like the idea of the agency. They take find you clients, they pay you directly even when the parents are being jerks about payment, they lend you equipment, ect, but you only get paid about 2/3 of the going rate ($20/day instead of $30/day, for example).

I'd like to have my cake and eat it too. Some kids through the agency and some by private arrangement (and who's parents are paying full fee directly to me).

I know tons of Canadian providers but I don't know anything about working through an agency.

There are several gals on the board that are in Canada too so many one of them will chime in and help you out...

Here is the link to the Day Nurseries Act. Maybe that will answer your question.. http://www.search.e-laws.gov.on.ca/e...&context=#hit1

You are a contractor for the agency. You are not their employee. You sign an agreement stating that. For that reason you can have private children or children coming from other agencies.

I think that this is how the other agency (military family resource center) explained it to me last time (it was over 10 years ago, though). I was subcontracted by them, but not their employee.

Thanks for replying and reminding me of that.
